I looked online at the ford accesories page and its about $315. The unit is 315 plus 285 for installation. Mine already came installed so I don't know how much mine was. It's always cheaper to buy the factory option (if available) and then you are assured that it will work with your car. I've heard horror stories about after market/non Ford remote starts. Doesn't installing the Ford remote start only have the same range as your key fob for unlocking the doors? I just got a Compustar remote starter installed with the 900sh single button remote and the temperature actuated rear defroster for $375. And the Compustar has a 2500' range, and I really like the look of the remote itself. Personally, I don't like the Ford Remote start, it doesn't seem to have much range, and is a little temperamental. Ford sells two different ones, the bi-directional one that lets you know when the car has started, and one that just starts the car w/o letting you know. My opinion is the regular one is the best. Here's why. The bi-directional one costs a lot more, has a bigger control with a fin on it, and (the most important) it stops the engine as soon as you open the door! You must insert the key and restart the car. I have the regular remote start on mine and it is a nice little size fob, has an incredibly long range (can even start my car from inside a building where I couldn't even see my car) and I can simply push the 'unlock' button on the key, get in, insert the key and turn it to 'on', and drive away. My neighbor has the bi-directional one and he hates it. Why would you want the car to shut off as soon as you open the door?? Don't bother asking any Ford technicians about this, they have no idea. I just found out by accident when the dealer ordered the regular one on my car. I can't say how much the install should be b/c as I said mine came from the factory that way. But don't waste your money on the bi-directional remote start, my car has never failed to start from as far away as inside a store or the mall as I'm nearing the exit. Its just a small rectangular fob with a red LED light that blinks when you push and hold it. Its awesome. Starts my car from hundreds of feet away, even inside buildings. Well then so did I, b/c I thought it would work that way on all Fords. My mistake. mgsolido Posted October 6, 2010 Author Share Posted October 6, 2010 Hey there, the remote start has been installed and i really like the way it works, it was installed on a ford fusion 2010 and it will not turn off when i open the door, it will turn of if you dont insert the key and put it in to the on position and press the brake. FYI also sometimes i forget something in my house when i am already in my car and its great that you can acuatlly leave the car running and take of the keys! not sure if this is available on the regular remote start, but i really like it, also the remote controll is not that big and doesnt really bother me. Mine doen't shut off if unlock the door with the key fob. Just unlock, insert the key in the ignition and put the key to run. Very long range, and I love the conformation that lets you know the car is running...remote beeps and has a green led that flashes behind the start button on the remote. Confirmed by my dealer. They even had to revise the manual. I don't think this was an intentional design, just one team of engineers not talking to another team. Oops. It certainly is not the way remote start was intended. To shut off when you get into the car? Using the Ford install instructions, I thought it was an easy install. Honestly programing the system is the hardest, and that's not really that bad..haha. I think it took me about half a day to do.
