Funny Thing Happened today

I was somewhat puzzled this morning when driving to work when the trunk released by itself. I was exiting a highway having to brake hard due to slow moving cars ahead when I heard the Trunk is Ajar chime went off and message on the message centre. At work I checked it and yes in fact it had released. I then realised what happened - I have a Thule storage bag and probably the handle may have caught on the emergency trunk release handle and when it shifted forward under hard braking, it pulled the handle. Weird.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I've had the same problem with a laundry basket catching the release when making right turns. I actually tucked the safety release into the slot it comes out of so it doesn't catch on shifting cargo and haven't had a problem since. Since I don't have kids and it would be easy to escape by pulling the seat release levers, I think I can safely justify this.

Never had this happen, but I can completely understand the issue. FusionDiffusion - I'm not sure how far into the slot you pushed the emergency release, but perhaps a safer, low tech solution might be better. Some duck tape, gafers tape, or even hockey tape could be used to hold the release flush up against the surface of the trunk and prevent it from catching on luggage etc. I'd imagine that the tape would let go easily enough to make a daring escape possible in the event it was warranted. I know the chance of someone getting stuffed in the trunk is remote, but god forbid someone you love ended up back there, it's probably better safe than sorry.
