Fusion non-hybrid I4 Milage

There was a post about milage but quickly went off topic so I want to start a new one. My 2010 SE + auto is sitting at 3000 miles and gave me 22-23mpg. More than half of the milage was driven on hwy so I am not really satisfied with mpg number - I am only hoping it will get better after 5000 miles, or so I was told.

Can you guys post your number with following info:

model: SE/SEL/etc.

tranny: auto/manual

odometer reading:

driving condition: hwy/local/combine/etc.

I think this will help a lot of us to do a good comparison.

So I will re-post my numbers

model: 2010 SE

tranny: auto

odometer reading: 3000 mile

driving condition: 2/3 hwy, 1/3 local

MPG: 22-23

The problem I have is that I am seeing same numbers regardless it's hwy or local. I was driving 500miles pure hwy and it's still 23mpg. Doesn't make sense. And I considered myself just a bit more aggressive driver than the average.

Report your RPM at highway speed (RPM and speed) and compare it to others to see if your car is in Overdrive or not. That's the only thing I can think of other than some pcm or engine problem.

Also - reset your mpg after you reach highway speed, then report back. If you don't reset it then you're seeing the average of the last several tanks not the current tank.

I am pretty sure O/D is enabled as RPM is always around 2000 when cruising at 70-80mph. And as mentioned, I once drove for almost 500miles on hwy only and got the same reading...thinking about to bring the car back to dealer but wonder if they will see this seriously.

You didn't verify whether or not you reset the avg mpg.

You also didn't really answer (from your other thread) if you have a lead foot from the stops. You said you're an 'average' driver, but from what I see the average driver is racing to get to the next red light! I think this is the single biggest factor affecting fuel mileage that the driver can control.

Also:

model: 2010 SE I4

tranny: auto

odometer reading: around 18,200

driving condition: 80/20 hwy/city

I avg 28-29 mpg. If it's a good week, and almost all highway, 30-32 mpg.

LOL. I can't stand slow ppl in my way but I am not the kind that races with lights.

I didn't reset the computer because as mentioned, I once drove 500miles pure hwy and got the same number. The manual states that the number is your average for the past 500mile.

Other lead foot drivers have much better numbers from what I can see..

Reset it and watch it while you're driving. You can even reset it for specific trips to see what the avg mpg is for that trip. I reset mine a lot to check the mpg on my commute.

There is also a chance that it's averaging over more than just the last 500 miles. I know in previous models like mine it's a lot longer interval.

You need to reset it just to be sure.

model: 2010 SE

Engine: 2.5L

tranny 6 speed manual

odometer reading: 18,650

Tire Pressure: 36 PSI

MPG CITY: 26-28 mostly suburban / rural driving with about 10% urban. If mostly urban (50%), it drops to 24.

MPG HWY: 32-34 at 70 mph with cruise set. (RPM@70 MPH: 2750 approx.)

My wife drives it mostly. She has learned how to "short shift" and get into 6th by 35-40MPH. She shifts no later than 2500 RPM.

Also have K&N OEM style air filter, but haven't noticed a big difference in MPG.

Hope this helps.

One of my favorite George Carlin lines is "Have you ever noticed how anyone that drives slower than you is an idiot, and anyone who drives faster than you is an a$$hole?"

It's all in what you perceive to be fast or slow... :shift:

It sounds like maybe there is something wrong, and you should check with the dealer.

model: 2010 Milan

engine: 2.5 L I-4

trans: 6 speed automatic

miles: 5,000

driving: 80% Interstate, 20% city

I reset the mileage computer when I took delivery of the car, and after 5,000 miles, it averages 34.3 MPG. Being it was purchased in late July in the Midwest, I've used the A/C liberally.

Anyone with SE sports appearance package w/ the 18" tires and rims seeing #'s just little lower than those already posted?

I recently followed another SE with the standard 17" tires for approx 150 miles. Both cars had the cruise control set at 75 and my MPG was about 1-2 below his and he was the lead car.
