OldCowboy
2011 SEL, 2.5L I-4, AT Yesterday, driving from Springfield, MO to Bonner Springs, KS, 188 mi, I set the cruise at 65 and averaged 41.1 MPG with the AC on Auto. Today, driving back, I set the cruise at 70 and got 36.6 under the same conditions. Driving around locally on hilly, curvy, 2 lane Ozark roads, I get 30-31 MPG.

jp16
2012 SE 2.5 se 6spd 450 ish miles Has gotten 29 MPG at the pump. (Well the one tank that we have run through it so far.) My Explorer has the message center and the MPG is way off. I hope they have fixed it in the new car...
mikennj
2011 SEL I4 Auto. 2 trips of 550 miles each. All highway, 70-75mph First one got 36.0mpg. Second one got 37.3 (including 45 minutes idling at the US Border). Both figures were obtained via the manual method (miles/gallons).
fsclaol
How did you "break-in" the engine? 2011 SE, I-4, 2.5L, manual 6 speed, 36PSI. On a recent highway trip CT-->KS-->CT, probably 98%H, 2%L @ 70-75MPH, cruise control, w/ AC, computer showed 33.8 MPG to KS and 32.7 MPG overall on the return. Normal 40%H, 60%L, anywhere from 25-29 MPG. Have gas receipts from the Midwest trip to verify the computer readings when I get a chance. The reason I ask about engine "break-in" is based on experience with my 2007 Ford Fusion I-4, 2.3L, manual 5 speed. I was greatly disappointed with the MPG. I suspect it wasn't broken in properly and experienced the same mileage you posted. A tankful on the 2007 would only last 300MI. With a properly broken in engine, I then experienced mileage above with a 400+MI tank range. Edited August 23, 2011 by fsclaol
mikennj
For me, I broke it in according to the manual. Varied vehicle speeds for first 1,000 miles. I found the computer mileage to be off on the first leg of the trip (it showed 2-3mpg lower than the values I got via the manual method). The 2nd leg of the trip, it was pretty much dead nuts on. Just filled it today, and got 33.0mpg for 70% highway/30% local driving. What RPM's are you doing at 70mph? With the auto, mine is showing about 2100pm.
raskell
I commute around 140 miles daily with the morning highway results in the 37MPG range. The return home is more of an uphill run on the same route such that the overall average comes in around 35 MPG. 10% Local and 90% highway. Haven't seen much change from new/break-in to today with 7000 miles on the 2011 SEL I4 2.5L. I am really pleased with the fuel economy. For the past two weeks, I have been driving on CNG instead of regular gasoline. I was hoping to eek out another coulple of MPG on the 130 Octane Fuel, but it has turned our to be pretty much a wash in the MPG department. Still good news for CNG though as I am paying $0.93/Gal Equiv versus $3.569 actual average for the past two weeks in my area. (saving at least $10/day) Edited August 24, 2011 by raskell

raskell
You had a CNG conversion kit added??? Absolutely. I had a l-e-m-o-n from another (not named) car maker. The resolution paid for my Fusion and most of the conversion. I had already been home re-fueling. I love driving with CNG. Wow, the auto is really tuned for economy....... I've got a manual and at 70-75MPH, I'm at 2,600 RPM.
