03reptile
I have a question for either Ford Technicians, Ford parts personnel, or knowledgeable readers. I have a 2010 SE Fusion and have just noticed that the 2011 Fusions now have the built in blind spot mirror in their outside mirrors, as standard equipment, like my 2011 GT500. Can I replace the 2010 mirrors with the up-graded 2011 outside mirrors? They appear to be the same size/configuration and am wondering if I can snap out the 2010 mirror and replace it with the 2011 mirror without having to replace the whole unit. (expensive). Thanks in advance for any guidence. I love the new blind-spot feature on the Shelby and sure would like to incorporate that type mirror onto the 2010 Fusion. If you're talking about the orange light in the mirror, you will have to add sensors in the rear bumper and make a change to the dash display to be able to turn it on and off. and no telling what else.

No, he's talking about the Ford Blind Spot Mirror, not BLIS.

deo1929
Maybe I'll have the new mirror installed when the body shop replaces the passenger mirror glass that got broken when my wife made a right turn in a parking lot and didn't see a post to protect a fire hydrant. It got the mirror...and the side of the car from the mirror to the back door.

It got the mirror...and the side of the car from the mirror to the back door. Ouuch... Makes you wonder why Ford doew not have foldable exterior mirrors. I drove a cheap Pontiac G5 which came standard with foldable exterior mirror. I once got squeezed between a garbage truck on my right and an aggressive driver who crossed the yellow line on my left. My passenger side mirror clipped the garbage truck so hard it folded and smashed right into the passenger side window. Mirror glass (reflective surface) was shattered but the only other damage was a small tear in the exterior mirror casing which I fixed with a small amount of epoxy and some touch-up paint. The whole thing cost me less than $50 to repair, including new mirror surface. I would really, really, hate to think of the damage such an encounter could have imparted on my Fusion. Actually, after that incident, if it were not for the 0% financing on the Ford at the time, I would have gone the Malibu way for THAT feature alone.
xmech2k
Don't they have those little stick-on blind spot mirrors in Canada? Autozone Just figure it's probably way cheaper, and can be removed or replaced if so desired. Edited September 30, 2010 by xmech2k

We ended up with the Fusion because it was the only US Company or Made in the US midsize sedan with a 6 speed manual. The Malibu is auto only. Toyota dealer wouldn't order a 6 speed stick Camry without non-refundable deposit. Accord is still a 5 speed. Chrysler products are crap (and owned by Fiat--another crap car company). And like you said, with options, cash back, and financing, the Fusion was a no-brainer.
FFHdriver
No, he's talking about the Ford Blind Spot Mirror, not BLIS. I now understand. Saw a 2011 Milan with the "blind spot" mirror at a dealer today. The parts man could not confirm if a 2011 would fit a 2010 and one costs $185. Let us know how it works. From what I see on a Milan website if you have BLIS you don't have this mirror. Edited October 6, 2010 by FFHdriver
deo1929
I"m getting my mirror replaced starting today at a cost of $2,703. Of course, that includes the RR passenger door skin and rear quarter repair. Wish they had a blind spot sensor that detected 30" high posts that protected fire hydrants but short drivers can't see. Oh well...
