Changing wheel size

Presently I have the optional 225/50/17" wheels on my 2010 Fusion and was wondering if I can install 205/60/16" wheels which the snow tires are on.

Hi nevada. :D akirby is correct, you can use the factory 16" wheel with the factory 205/60-16 tire. However, if the 16" wheels you are discussing are not the Fusion Factory wheels (you don't mention either way), there are sizing questions that would need to be answered (i.e. what offset are the new wheels, what is the centerbore size etc.)

In addition, you are confusing and jumbling together various tire/wheel specs that have no relationship to each other (kind of surprised you decided not to mention this, Allen! :drop: ). Therefore, below is some extremely basic tire/wheel sizing information that may be handy to know in the future.

You have the optional 225/50-17" tires on the optional 17" wheels. The 225/50 numbers have nothing to do with the wheel size. Those numbers mean the tread width of your tires is 225 mm, and the sidewall height (or ratio) is 50% of that 225mm width, or 112.5mm (that is what the 225/50 means). And they fit a 17" wheel. So you currently have a 225/50-17 tire which fits a 17" wheel. In addition, that 2010 Fusion factory 17" wheel is 7.5" wide.

In the case of the Fusion's factory 16" wheels, the factory tire is a 205/60-16. So that means the tread width is 205mm wide. The sidewall height/ratio is 123mm (60% of the 205mm width) and they fit a 16" wheel. So it is a 205/60-16 tire which fits a 16" wheel. Off the top of my head, I am not sure what the width of the factory 16" wheel is.

You can find and research much useful wheel/tire information on websites such as "The Tire Rack". Here is a link to the Tech Center articles concerning tires, wheels etc..: LINK: Tire Rack Tech Center It is very informative and will explain all about proper wheel and tire sizing.

Of course there are other excellent websites for this type of information, but this one is a good place to start.

Hope this information helps.

Good luck. :beerchug:
