SliverSport10
Hi All, I was wondering if anybody else was experiencing this problem. It seems that my front tires are cronically low on pressure. I noticed about a week ago that my tires looked low, and when I checked them, they were @ about 22 psi. So I filled them up to the recommended 35 psi but a day or so later they look like they are low again. Is this just a result of the cold weather or should I have this checked out? Thx!

Hi SliverSprt. :D A pressure decrease under those circumstances of that magnitude is not normal. Have them checked. Tires will lose (or gain) approximately 1 psi per 10* F drop (or rise) in ambient air temperature. So as an example: Let's say you filled them to 35psi this morning and the air temperature was 60*F, Next Monday, if the air temperature in the morning is 30*F, it would be normal that they might give a reading of ~32psi (a 3*F drop = a ~3psi drop. So assuming you are checking and inflating when the tires are "cold" (as recommended) then a 13psi drop would not be normal, unless the temperature in your area also dropped 130*F in a ""day or so"! :eek5: In addition (I assume you already know this, but want to play it safe), never go by how they "look". Always use a tire pressure gauge to check actual pressures before and after inflating. Have them checked and let us know the outcome. Good luck. :beerchug: Edited December 20, 2010 by bbf2530
2010SEL
Sounds like a leak, however it would be very unusual for both front tires to develop this problem suddenly. How are the rear tires? Hey bbf2530, you can get a " º " symbol to show up by holding down the "Alt" key and typing 167 on the numerical keyboard.

In this case, I figured it was close enough (laziness on my part). I even have a shortcut to the Character Map on my Desktop, but rarely use it. By the way, I could Google it, but figure I will be lazy for once and ask: What is the keyboard shortcut to bring up the Character Map? Thanks in advance! Happy Holidays and good luck. :beerchug: Edited December 21, 2010 by bbf2530

Thanks in advance! Happy Holidays and good luck. :beerchug: I do not believe there is a built-in shorcut key to get to the Character Map. I found the C/M by going to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map. Created a shortcut to the C/M and placed in in my startup toolbar. Something I never thought of doing before. I use it a lot and this will save time. Thanks for causing a lightbulb to go off over my head (like an old Ford commercial "A Better Idea"!) ...And you guys all thought this was just an automotive forum!

You might have porous wheels as a result of a manufacturing defect. They have to be immersed in a tank of water that any tire shop, and possibly your dealer, will have. Then again, maybe somebody's pranking you. ^_^ BTW, I have an icon on my desktop as a shortcut to the character map. kentak
Check the valve in the valve stem. Mine was loose or bad and I just put a new one in. It's the kind of thing that doesn't go bad very often and is easy to overlook, but is very cheap and easy to fix. Ken
acdii
TPMS didn't go off? That large of a drop would set the light off.
DeadButDreaming
how can you check if your sensors are reporting correctly to the SJB or not with out visiting a dealer???
akirby
Make sure your tire gauge is working accurately. Did you hit anything that could have damaged the front wheels? Edited September 22, 2013 by akirby
FusionDiffusion
how can you check if your sensors are reporting correctly to the SJB or not with out visiting a dealer??? You can read the tire pressures straight from the SJB using the FORScan scan tool program.
DeadButDreaming
yes I did hit a small curb the other day that resulted in a need of a wheel balance to be done
akirby
yes I did hit a small curb the other day that resulted in a need of a wheel balance to be done You might have bent the wheels and caused a slow leak.
DeadButDreaming
I though that aluminum wheels are broken and cant be bent on a hit

Winkey+R brings up the run box type charmap and [ENTER] to load character map. You can read the tire pressures straight from the SJB using the FORScan scan tool program. Neat. I should get a bluetooth adapter for my laptop. I already have the bluetooth ELM327 but Torque for Android doesn't show pressures.
Fusionpursuit
I have a slow leak on one of my front well it was rotated to the rear for 5K then rotated back, but TPMS went off when it was in front, had 28 PSI. while all were intact at 35PSI. I have been filling it often to keep it up, I had dealer check it at maintenance interval, they found nothing, I am betting they never put it in a tank or so. It may be the valve, I have my 30K coming up and will have them check valve, its very slow leak loses 1 PSI about 2 weeks. tread wear is still good so not planning on new tires yet which would of course need a TPMS rebuild which would have brand new valves.
Fusionpursuit
they finally found it, after checking twice in 10K miles, should have done the water immersion the first time, soap spay did not detect it, it was a very tiny nail which could not be seen very well
2011se25
Glad you fixed your leak! Neat. I should get a bluetooth adapter for my laptop. I already have the bluetooth ELM327 but Torque for Android doesn't show pressures. Tried FORScan. The only modules I get are: IPC - Instrument Panel Control Module PSCM - Power Steering Control Module RCM - Restraint Control Module OCS - Occupant Classification System Module PCM - Powertrain Control Module OBDII - On Board Diagnostic II ABS - Anti-Lock Brake / Traction Control Module No SJB, which is required to read tire pressures. My reader ( by default) can read HS-CAN (High Speed), but not MS-CAN (Medium Speed) where SJB resides. These pages have more information, as well as instructions on adding this capability to the el-cheapo ELM327 I bought. http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/124-taurus-sable-general-discussion/182569-accessing-advanced-ford-pids-scan-tool.html http://forscan.org/howto.html#ht1 Edited October 9, 2013 by 2011se25
