jlucas3
How about some Fusion pictures Some shots from my experience at the Ford Innovation Drive (https://www.fordinnovationdrive.com/home.htm) in Kentucky today. I think we were the first general public folks to drive around in the car. Here ya go: Fusion Pictures

robertlane
Awesome - posted on the front page - I tried to make the event, but got stuck here in Dearborn.
jlucas3
I'm coming from having driven a 2001 Taurus SE since 2001 (and as a normal guy, not a car reviewer). The Fusion makes it feel like a boat. The car was very precise with the steering. We drove through a cone course that had a lot of curves set up. It handled those with ease with a very stiff body (very limited body role, esp compared to my Taurus). My wife has an 05 Focus ST and it very much reminded me of that feel (a very sporty feel). The seat held me in place through the turns. The engine was very quiet and the 6-speed very smooth. I don't recall any jerking on the shift and i did floor it a couple of times. Just a great ride all around. I liked it much better than the Mustang, but i'm more a family sedan kind of guy.
jlucas3
Also something that stood out to me that i really liked even tho i wasn't sure that i would was the dash instruments. The way the contrasts are it really made it visible and had a certain coolness factor to it.
robertlane
Was the test Fusion a pre-build? If not, what was your impression of the interior fit and finish?
jlucas3
That i could not tell. The one that i took the interior pictures of i took a picture of the label on the inside of the door (101_1932.jpg). It says June 05 but i don't know if that came off the actual line as they set up. The blue one did not have a model designation (SE or SEL) like the others so i assumed that meant it was not built on the production line. Fit wise i'm not really a detail guy but nothing stood out to me as out of place with regard to fit and finish. The stitching definately stood out on the black leather. For my purposes i verified that the back seats do flip down to flat on both sides. I was worried about that from the ford video.
robertlane
OK - I'm just a little concerned about the Collins & Aikman situation. I'm not really a detail guru either - but the media will put the Fusion under a microscope.
2b2
...The blue one did not have a model designation (SE or SEL) like the others so i assumed that meant it was not built on the production line...93[/snapback] Could the dk. blue one have been an 'S' (4 cyl)? The tailpipes are on one side (101_1891.jpg - btw very nice gallery you created!). Along the same line - do you remember if it had the "grained" non-trim on the dash which comes in the 'S'? Likewise, I see they had a couple 'SE's - did they have the carbon-fiber look trim? And did any of them have the grey interior? (Can't tell for sure if the open door of the Tungsten SEL in 101_1867.jpg is a warm grey or beige.)
jlucas3
The one i drove was an SEL just like the one that i took the interior pictures of. The interior shoots were of a static display model. They only had the one that you could crawl around in, the others were being used for the driving demos (7 total for those). I didn't get a chance to see inside any of the driving demos cars so i can't answer. I'm pretty sure all the drive cars were v6 automatics. The SEL i drove in had a moonroof! My wife hates the analog clock. I think the interior in 1867 is the beige (camel). The car color is the tungsten silver (the grey) and door panel is much lighter. They had silver, grey, black and merlot on the driving track. The blue was a locked static model by itself. Sorry i didn't think to take more interior shots. It would have given me something to do in line. It was about a 45 minute line. I would have gone back through later in the day when the line was much shorter but we had some rain coming through and the boss was ready to leave.
Drake
Nice pics! It looks good in Merlot but I think it still looks best in black. To bad the blue isn't the sonic blue from the Mustang.

Sonic would be good - or maybe a very metallic steel blue?
gt5001
Is the 6-speed an auto-stick or just a conventional automatic transmission? If so, I'm not interested. The Mazda 6 has the auto stick but from the interior shots, the Fusion pictured did not appear to have it. I really would prefer a 5-speed, but don't think the 150-160 hp and corresponding torque is enough for this car.
