Are they WORTH using? Only you can decide that.

 

AMSOIL products are very high quality, albeit a bit pricey. They are primarily marketed as "extended drain" products, meaning that they claim the products can remain in service much longer than most others.

 

If your car sees extreme temperatures or gets very hard use, then they may be of value, but otherwise, unless you are going to extend your oil-change intervals to 15,000 or more, AMSOIL products are not economical. Using their oil and filters for a 5,000-mile interval is a complete waste.

First post...

 

I haven't bought my Fusion yet but its in the works. Although I do use AMSOIL products in my Tundra and my Sportster! I really like their oil. I changed the DIFF fluid out with severe gear at 2800 miles, because the toyota gear oil is crap and I really wanted to get all the break in metal off the magnet. Then I changed to Amsoil 0W-20 for my 5.7 at 10K miles..... Then at 16,500 miles I had a Trans fluid exchange done to get all the toyota crap out and brand new syn Amsoil in...

 

It is pricey but I do most of the maint myself. I want my vehicles to last so I use good products. I don't do the 5K miles engine oil changes... I will be using the 7500-10K mile interval. The truck sees mostly highway anyway..

 

Hopefully the Fusion deal goes through. When I get it all the major fluids will be switch out with AMSOIL. The Fusion is a gold 06 SEL I-4 Fusion.

I have an 07 awd with both differentials flushed with Amsoil was going to do the trans case but come to find out you cant its a lifetime fluid. To take it out and change fluid would be a nightmare. I get maybe 1 or 2 mpg better gas thats about it and maybe piece of mind.

Not true - you can use the cooler lines to replace the trans fluid.

the transmission or the transfer case. The dealership told me the transfer case has a lifetime warranty and the fluid cannot be replace.

 

The AWD Fusion doesn't have a transfer case. It has a power transfer unit (PTU). It most certainly does not have a lifetime warranty. It's covered under the terms of the powertrain warranty. I think what the dealer said is that it's lubed for life. There's no drain plug on the PTU. I'd leave sleeping dogs lie.

 

The Power Transfer Unit is lubricated for life with synthetic lube. Lubricant levels are not to be checked or changed unless a leak is suspected or repair required. Replace Power Transfer Unit lubricant with specified synthetic lubricant anytime the unit is submerged in water

Hi,

 

It's funny you ask 'cause I bought a big conical Amsoil EA dry filter for my Steeda CAI (so I don't have to oil it) and last friday had amsoil 5W-20 sythetic oil put in the 2010 sport. Amsoil is supposed to be the balls...it kinda better be for $60 worth of oil :blink: - filter was like $75 shipped.

 

The filter is big, so the lack of the opening at the end shouldn't be a huge deal compared to the Steeda - feels the same on the butt dyno....too soon to tell anything on the oil MPG-wise...but I'm hoping it will do something to help my terrible gas mileage...perhaps in vain.

some of the amsoil oils are synthetic blends (like Mobil 1 synthetic or royal purple). I believe the amsoil series 2000 may be a fully synthetic oil. Lots written on this over at Bob is the oil guy.com. Haven't been over there since my Mustang and F150 days.

 

I voted "other" because I use Red Line polyol ester based synthetic oils in all of my cars/trucks. Seems to do better with heat than the PAo basestocks according to what I have read. I also use their Fuel system cleaner (SI-1) at every oil change. I did this with my 330 rwhp (NA) 2003 Mustang GT (Mahle coated pistons, Manley H-beam rods, cobra crank, comp 270 cams, ferrera stainless valves, 24lbs injectors, all the bolt ons with a dyno tune and full exhaust). Now I do it with my Fusion, and our 97 F-150 with 395, 000 miles on the original engine/tranny.

 

FWIW, I use K&N oil filters.

I have been using Amsoil in several vehicles for about 10-years. Is it worth it? I don't know! It gives me good peace of mind. I haven't had any issues. I check the dipstick, and it still has brown color, not black after 5,000 miles. I just change once a year, usually less than 10,000 miles. I have been using "K & N" or "Mobil 1" oil filters. I get them, when on sale, at one of the auto parts stores for $10.00

Earlier this year i became a dealer. As far as the products go, I am happy with them. As for their customer service etc, I am very unimpressed. Things arrive damaged with no exterior damage, get shipped to the wrong place, profits get eaten by shipping charges, packages get lost before they even leave the warehouse. So far I have lost money to be able to sell their products.

 

I am currently using the coolant boost and 0w20 engine oil and have not had any issues. I did a test on the coolant where I blocked off the lower grill in 36 degree Celsius (97F) weather and I couldn't get it to over heat but the cooling fan ran nonstop while I wasn't moving.
