Triumphguy
I traded my 2009 Jeep Wrangler for a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5L on Saturday. I got a bit of a surprise today when I called Allstate. My insurance on my Jeep was $518 every six months and the Fusion is $759. This caught me off guard given the Wrangler has a six cylinder, sits high and doesn't have the best manners on road. So I did a little digging and found that the six cylinder fusion has a lower rate as well. Anyone know why this is? Also, I haven't had any tickets or wrecks. The Allstate rep didn't know why either since the rates are set for them. Ronnie
xmech2k
My agent once told me it's set by how many claims are made on a model.
jazztrumpet216
Sentry was charging me $1054 every 6 months living outside of Madison. I'm 25 & single. Switched to Progressive and am now paying $375. Ask your agent to requote you, and check around with other companies. EDIT: I should mention this is on a 2010 Fusion with the 2.5L and a 1992 Plymouth Voyager with a 3.0L. akirby
My agent once told me it's set by how many claims are made on a model. Not just number of claims but the average claim payout. Insurance is just probability - what's the probability of a claim and how much and how often. That's how they figure their average cost. Then they add to that for profit. Cars that are stolen more often or cost more to repair or have a higher probability of an accident drive up the cost. Airbags may save lives but they also cost a lot more to repair - actually driving up insurance costs (obviously worth the tradeoff though).
Triumphguy
While I understand that insurance is probability and dependent on the number of claims on a model, I didn't understand the engine difference. Normally when the engine is smaller, the rate stays the same or goes down not up. Ronnie

Dclifford110910
My Nissan armada was $17 cheaper (on a 6 month premium) than my now fusion hybrid is. Not a huge difference but baffled me too
Fuze-ion
I only added to my insurance policy, already had three vehicles, now insuring four. I'm paying $410 (State Farm) for full coverage for 6-months, on a 2010 Hybrid, with a good driving record.
TuxedoBlackFusion
I pay $1370 for a year to fully cover my 2011 Fusion SE and a 2008 Limited AWD Edge through Safeco Insurance, so baically $57 for each car per month.
Beachboy
I live in the midwest, and my purchased-new 2010 Milan costs me around $250 every six months through State Farm. That's with $100 deductible and the highest coverage available on liability/injuries. I'm over 50 with no chargeable claims or traffic tickets for over 30 years. I drive about 30,000 miles/year, so obviously no "low mileage driver" discount. I do get a discount for having my second vehicle as well as my house insured through State Farm also. Going from my old 1999 Mercury Mystique to the 2010 Milan only raised my premiums $75 every six months.
DjTim21
I traded my 2009 Jeep Wrangler for a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5L on Saturday. I got a bit of a surprise today when I called Allstate. The Allstate rep didn't know why either since the rates are set for them. Ronnie I have a FF 2011 SE with the 2.5. I have Allstate and I'm paying $1100 ($550 5 months) for full coverage. I have a few different options with Allstate like travel insurance, rental coverage, etc.. because I travel a bit. I'm 34, married with 2 kids and no accidents in the last 4 years and I live in the far North suburbs of Chicago (10 miles from the Wisconsin border). I also have a 1999 Jeep Grand 6 cylinder with liability only and I'm paying $400 a year for that one. I have a ton of discounts listed because we also have our home owners insurance with them as well. My wife and I were talking about getting a re-quote via State Farm, Farmers, etc.. I don't think this is real high, but it's also due to the miles I drive for work (50 a day). I've also been very happy with Allstate, no issues on the home owners side (1 claim in the last 3 years). There are a ton of factors when you get insurance, age, location, miles average per year, car model, etc... My personal opinion is go with the company that serves you best, or has the best track record in handling claims and gives discounts over time for being a good driver and loyalty discounts. I've heard horror stories when folks switched to the lizard and had an accident, and I've heard the same stories about State Farm, Farmers etc...

KevinAdams05
I'm in Missouri and paying $676 for 6 months with American Family. That's with multiple car discounts and home owner discount. I'm 24 so that doesn't help. I don't remember exactly what my coverage is, but it's pretty good.
