Left Front Turn Signal Not Working

Recommended Posts

I just noticed that the left front turn signal isn't working. The bulb is fine but it's not flashing when it's supposed to. The right side works fine and the left rear is fine. Also the left rear doesn't flash fast to indicate there's a bulb problem and the system check doesn't show a problem either. Any ideas?

Sounds like the smart junction box is fubar.

Is the Smart Junction Box something that I can replace or does it need to be replaced and programmed by a dealer?

You could try disconnecting the negative battery cable to see if that resets it - otherwise I think the dealer would have to do a reboot/reset and if that doesn't work replace it and/or re-download the software.

This has happened a few times when people put in HIDs (not saying you did, just that the problem has occurred before). You could try doing a search for HIDs and SJB or Smart Junction Box.

:happy feet:Solution :

Usually when the signal (left or right) is not working and there is no message in the board, the bulb is still good but the SJB has a problem (gone bad and has to be replaced). It will cost you 500-600$ at the dealership. Some will think that's a lot of $ to spend just for a light not working.

If the rear one is still working and you have some electrical skills and a solder gun there is a temporary (can become permanent) solution and it will cost you less than 20$ and 1-2 hours of you're time.

You need a relay, a new bulb and some wire. Splice into the (+) signal wire of the back turn light and feed the signal to a relay (the cheapest you can get, you need less than 2 amps running on it ) that will power the old bulb. Cut the (+)wire that powers the front bulb and power the bulb with the new installed relay. The wire that you just cut needs to be routed to ground thru the light bulb that you just bought. This bulb will not light up but will fool the SJB in order to not get error messages in the dashboard or quick flashing on the rear turn light.

This is a simple temporary solution but its been months since I use it and will not spend a lot of money to fix the SJB unless it will go bad with others functions.

You can add the relay in the engine bay (and you will not hear it but you will need to route a wire from the rear turn light to the engine bay) or you can do it under the dashboard more neatley, just finding the wires in the looms that go in the SJB:

Left Front turn signal wire color BLUE with GREEN STRIPE

Right Front turn signal wire color yellow with violet stripe

Right rear turn signal wire color violet with orange stripe

Left rear turn signal wire gray with brown stripe

For position of the wires and pins on the SJB please have a look at this:

Please do not spend a lot of $$$ for this problem and if you have question about how to do it feel free to ask, I will happily help you because I've been there and know how you feel.

Good luck and don't give up

Hi all, old tread but I will post my experience to help others.

So I had pretty much the same problem on my 06 fusion, right front signal not working, good bulb, etc... Using this forum and other sources, I came to the conclusion that the sjb had to be replaced.

The thing is I did not want to spend 600$ at the dealership and the rewiring using the rear turn signal did not appeal me at all.

So I went to my local junkyard and grabbed a sjb from an 07 fusion (27$ :D)similarly equipped( mine is a basic SE so not much in it) and told myself, meh fuck it I'll swap it and worst case I will just put the old one in and go to the dealership and have them install and reprogram the new one from the junkyard.

Basically unpluged the old one, remove it and put the new one in, plug it and voilà! Problem solved, everything seems to be working so far and no fancy dealership programming was necessary.

Hope this will help someone else to not spend 600$ for a turn signal.

Cheers
