Blue Oval
For the life of me, I can't understand the fascination with the non-chrome look on today's cars. Removing the chrome bumpers, grilles, window surround, wheel opening and bodyside moldings was a cost-saving measure decided by the manufacturers' designers. The result was that all new cars instantly became nearly identical and in my opinion, quite boring. I say bring back the chrome contrast, two-tone paint and unique styling!
SteveV
any update to this? Has anyone succesfully removed the chrome window sill trim? Instead of painting it, I'd rather try installing the black ones from the base model Fusion. Anyone do this yet? I tried removing the screw inside the door and the sill trim did not budge. or if you know of a link from a different Fusion forum where someone showed how to remove this, please let me know. Thanks. MonoxideChild
I Plastidipped the chrome on my Mazda. I personally couldnt stand the lood. It just makes me think of 80's boat cars like the town car and 5th ave. haha. Plus with it being Plastidip, i can just peel it off if i ever decide to sell it and want it back to chrome without any real work.
SteveV
ok I finally figured it out. it's best to roll your windows down first. Remove the T-20 torx screw for them on the inside of the door. Then just pry and pull up the sills with a lot of force and they will come out. Others have said they slide out horizontally a few inches and then pull them up, but I couldn't get mine to slide at all. I just pulled up as hard as I could and they finally came out. I installed the black ones from the Fusion S. They are just plain black rubber though, not shiny and smooth like the chrome ones. SteveV
around $130 shipped from Tascafordparts.com I'm trying to sell my chrome sill to recoup some of the costs but I'm not sure if I'll get any takers for them.
bmtangney
I found that sliding a microfiber towel under the end of the sill to pull them up was a lot easier than trying to just wedge your hands in.
MdWhiteTitan
Just picked up my '14 Titanium Monday night. Cold weather, long work days and short sunlight - I just got the chance to really look the car over in the day light, last night. To my surpirse, the chrome window trim around the exterior of every window was full of rust spots. Tried everything I've ever known to be safe on a car to see if I was seeing things - sure enough, I wasn't. Hoping the dealer replaces them with no argument. Known issue with the chrome? Thinking about swapping it for black plastic, but if I understand the post above the trim from the S model/line is just rubber?
