17'" Winter Tires

I have a question for my fellow Fusionites ( I hope that works for everyone, if not then I apologise!) concerning winter tires for my two week old SEL I-4 with 17'" (225 50 R17) wheels I know that winter for most is over but I am looking around to see if there are any end of season deals on winter tires. I really like the ten spoke wheels that came with the car and aren't the biggest fan of steel wheels that most people mount winter radials on. So I am in the process of buying a set of Fusion hybrid alloys off someone that went to aftermarket wheels and if I can find a good deal, I will buy the tires for them and mount them now or next fall.

My question is this - Has any members gone with the original stock size wheel / tire combo for winter ( 17"rims with 225 50 R17 tires) or did you either get a slightly different size that still used a 17" rim or did you go with a 16" rim and higher profile tire (60 series etc.)? I would really like to know what others have done as I am about to purchase these Fusion Hybid alloys this week and want to make sure that I am doing the right thing. Also this will be the first car that I will have winter wheels for.

Anyone care to comment on this?

I have 205/60-16. It's what the dealer gave me instead as part of the free "Winter tire" package.

Company cars they put 225/50-17 winter tires on.

16" Tires:

-Narrower, will cut through snow better

-higher profile will absorb pothole bumps better

-Are cheaper / potentially more selection

-Look at getting Fusion S, or previous gen wheels for something that looks nice (instead of black steelies)

-Use 34PSI, which is different from the 17".

That said if you get 17"s and tires for a good price, it will look nicer.

Well I came across a set of 2010 17" Fusion Hybrid that have only three months use before the guy went to a after market wheel, so they are absolutely in mint condition. The cost is only a bit more then black steelies with generic hub caps, so I bought them. The only thing is the owner removed the tire pressure sensors because he used them on the aftermarket wheels that he bought for the Fusion Hybrid. The up side is that I have found a new unused set of OEM Ford sensors at a reasonable price so all I have to do is find a deal on a set of good winter tires at a good price by fall.................The search is on!
