Magnaflow cat back system and Steeda CAI installed

I just got my Magnaflow system and installed today, and yesterday I installed my new Steeda CAI. Sounds good and went well.

I also worked with my exhaust man and we modded the pipe between the cats and the Flex pipe. First he cut the pipe out between the junction of where the pipes between cats come together and the Flex pipe flanged connection. This piece of pipe has a crush in it from the factory making it a semi D shape with the flat part of the D on top. The pipe is crushed into more of a D shape than we anticipated. There was a ton of room between it and the nearest component above, so we replaced that with a new piece of 2 1/4" straight stainless pipe with just a slight bend at the end. The junction between the front and rear cat pipes wasn't too terribly bad, but we were able to open it up quite nicely as they had made it by forming both pipes into semi circles and then welding them together, before welding the new pipe in, we simply clearanced the center where the two pipes mated, turning into one open area forward to the outside weld toward the front of the car, basically removing the straight part of the D shape. When done, you could look into the opening and see two pipes welded together that were both pretty much round where they met.

You guys may want to consider looking at yours. I bought my Magnaflow from Steeda and I've already suggested to them that they take a look at making this a potential product. Frank at Steeda seemed very interested in the idea, as he is also listed as a being in "Special Projects" as his title. I'm ready for my new tunes now!!!

No drone at steady speed on the interstate, but you do get some drone at 25-35 mph. It does talk when you accelerate! but idle is nearly silent. It is louder than the CAI.

Have you noticed any MPG improvements and how is the performance? The cat-back is quite pricey...I may just have a shop weld me in some magnaflow mufflers instead, not sure if I want to hack the stock piping though.

It seems funny to me that people ask about the mpg when they are asking about an exhaust system or CAI. Supposedly and if you treated it right, you should get better gas mileage from the installation of both. Now the problem: you will press harder on the accelarator to hear the sound and feel the power. So may I suggest that if your only concern is mpg, that you not waste your time. The entire point of doing these mods is to go faster, right? It will never save you enough in mpg versus how much they cost.

Do the entire catback, not just mufflers. All stock exhaust systems are too darn restrictive.

My reasoning is valid, though, as I commute 100 miles a day to work and 90% of that time I drive like a normal person and fuel mileage really adds up for me...but I want that 10% to be more responsive (for passing etc) and yes, have more power! I'm sure if I do those mods the first few weeks or so I would dig into it more just for enjoyment but that'll wear off quick I'm sure. I have a Mustang to drive around on the weekends when I really want to get into it! :-)

You are a better man then me if you can lay off the throttle. I could not do it with my Mach 1 and especially once I got everythign put on there. I have not done it yet with the Sport and I could only imagine I would get on it a lot more with the exhaust and CAI.

This will actually be my work car as well. So I will be putting a lot of miles on it but I make no bones about the fact that I did not by the SPORT to get the best gas mileage. Hahahaha!

I was not trying to discredit your question. Please don't take it that way. I just find it impossible to stay our of the throttle with mods! In theory you should get better gas mileage.
