Right wiper

The right side wiper does Not hide under the hood like the left side does. Should it be this way ( I hope not) or hidden like the left side is. I see it each time I drive wife's car and it bugs me, her on the other hand as long as it has gas and oil she don't pay attention.

Hi Dave. :D There are small hash marks shaped like an L or T (I forget which is which) on the windshield where the wipers should "park". They are located by the tips of each wiper. If your wipers line up with the hash marks, they are located properly, If not, have them adjusted by the Service Department next time you have your car in. Or if you are mechanically inclined, adjust them yourself.

As lolder and rfruth mentioned, the passenger side wiper arm is shaped and located differently, so odds are they may be located correctly now.

Let us know how you make out.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Thanks for all the replies. You are all right and mine is between the marks. So what it boils down to is poor design.

I think the design is fine, if the right arm was straight and hid behind the hood, you'd lose about 5 inches of wiper at the top of your windshield.

"L" is the mark for the right and "T" is the mark for the left wiper.

I had my car at a car wash and the wipers started at full speed on their own during the wash. I was a little worried about it and the attendant said not to worry. Lexus' and Cadillacs come through all the time without a problem, he was right, they still work fine. Mine don't seem to be as sensitive in the real world, it has to see a lot of rain to come on automatically. On commercials on TV all it takes is a drop or two. Where should I leave them set?

You may not be so lucky next time at the car wash.

Turn them to the off position!

No still poor design. There is no reason they couldn't have designed them to be hidden. Many cars are that way now but with people with low standards there is no reason to step up to the plate. Same reason they don't display tire pressure on dash or signal when the turn signal is still on like my cheap HHR does.

If you can't see or hear the loud turn signal, you have problems. Tire pressure readings could be added for a price but a hand held tire gauge is cheaper.

I don't think it has anything to do with people who have low standards. If it really bothers you why did you "downgrade" to the Fusion. Just stick with your cheap HHR.

If you look at the design parameters on the location of the right wiper like the pivot points and wipe area, they did as much as they could to hide the wiper.

I can't tell you how many people look at my car and laugh hysterically because the right wiper is higher than the left.

Strange, I have never had anybody say anything before. Nor have I read any, very numerous, articles that even raises this point. Just a personal observation? Lots of wipers are visible on many types of vehicles while driving.

I checked mine and it rests about 1/4" high but is of no concern to me nor does it draw my attention. And don't say I wouldn't care, if this type of wiper design were on my '10 GT500, it still wouldn't bother me and I'm OCD with that car.

Wow sounds like you are dealing with some real pricks.

Like bdrool, I am fairly detail-oriented and never noticed this "issue" prior to this thread. I have received nothing but compliments from passengers in my car.

It is very clearly a poor design I would agree, and in more than one way. It is poor insofar as wind resistance is concerned. The Aptera designers boast the drag coefficient of the entire Aptera = that of wiper blades alone in conventional cars [pardon the paraphrase, it's been awhile]. I wondered the same thing, though in a car with this much weight arguably it may not be a significant issue after all. But I do agree, goofy design.

Same here, I've had my car for over 2 years and had to walk out to the garage to make note of it. If someone finds the design that funny, wow his or her life must be darn near perfect to go and look for things like that.

The WS wiper parking issue is minor and a problem that many don't even notice, but.....

We have two Fords with 'another' WS wiper issue.... Very Poor Functional Design.......The Rt wiper throws the water directly in the drivers vision before the Left wiper clears it. A medium rainfall forces the driver to use the fast speed to continue to see - any harder rain, you had better just pull over and let cars go by that have wipers that function correctly. '08 Mustang GT and a '11 Fusion - same poor WS wiper function.

Don't these automotive engineers drive the cars they design (in the rain) or do they all just drive Nissan, Toyota, or Lexus? Ford needs to address their crappy WS wiper issues - bring them up to the sweet standards of the Fusion and Mustang as a whole!!

OK, stepping off soap box! I never cared for driving in the rain anyhow!

What car have you ever driven that the right wiper doesn't throw water onto the left side? Water from the up stroke has to go somewhere.

Well something wrong with the logic of water being thrown to the other side as a design issue. All the Toyotas I have owned and been in do the same thing there is no way around this. The only car I have seen that does not do this is MB with their one wiper arm design which is as ugly as hell. Some people have to much time on their hands to dream up such crud.

I could be wrong but I think Craig is being sarcastic. I personally have not noticed any problem with the wiper design (and this car replaces a highly engineered Lexus LS with hidden wipers) and find it remarkable it gets this many comments) Just saying...

Yes I do have a problem. I wear 2 hearing aids, but my point is my HHR I used to have and my current Equinox both have those features on cars that sticker for 3k and 10k less than the Fusion. The hybrid is supposed to be a high end model when ordered with all the toys but take away the hybrid part and it isn't even close to being high end in my humble opinion.

Is the HHR the Chevy retro crossover? Does it have MyLink as standard? How about Bluetooth. How about an automatic transmission? The rear camera is an option on all the HHR models. It doesn't have BLIS or CTA. You're trying to compare apples and oranges. Ford put their money in other places. They are, after all, just Fords and Chevys.
