Dash Display Updated Again????

We will have had this Hybrid for 2 years this coming Oct. and have had the dash display reset itself for the 3rd time during this 2 year period. I haven't read anything in quite a while on this problem and wonder if Ford ever came up with a fix. Has anyone found an answer to this problem. I know it isn't much of a problem only doing it 3 times but in the back of my mind will this become a big problem and cause us to end up beside the road someday?

I had the dealer perform TSB 10-15-5 under warranty today at 29,500 miles. It took about 20 minutes. The TSB subject is --dash mode resets to "Enlighten" in some FFHs built before 3/10/10. I had two in the last 10,000 miles. There are two display changes. The first is; a large green car symbol with the words "Ready To Drive" appears for about 4 seconds in the left dash message area as well as the steady small green car in the lower right when car is turned on. This is probably for the people who didn't turn the key far enough to start and didn't notice the absence of the small green car. The second is the trip summary displays fuel to hundredths of a gallon instead of tenths. The miles to E display is disturbed and displays about 525 miles with a newly filled tank. It is counting down only 1.0 miles for every 2.5 miles traveled. I expect this is normal and will be accurate in 100 or 200 miles. You may have to reset some of your display preferences. If your car was built before this date, you should do this. You can tell when your car was built by entering the Engineering Test Mode ( ETM ). Hold down "Reset" and "Set Up" for about 5 seconds while turning the key to accessory/ on mode ( not start ) until "Engineering Test Mode" appears on the right side of the dash. Using "Reset", page to the 3rd. screen and you will see the manufacture date. ( These dates are blank if you start the car in ETM.) I'm not sure which warranty it's under so I made sure to have it done before the end of the 3/ 36,000 one.

I too drive a 2010 (501A) I believe to have been built sometime 02/10. The same happened to me about a week ago at just over 7000 miles. It was a cool day (60ish) and I had just left work and was at a stoplight about a quarter mile away so the car was not warmed up. A few seconds after stopping it seemed like the ICE shut down a little more roughly than usual with a bit of a jolt. At the same time the dash changed to the enlighten mode and my long term mileage reset to zero. I wasn't expecting it so I am pretty sure there were a few seconds where the display froze up and appeared to have an electronic meltdown but I am not 100% sure because it all happened so quickly. It may have also just been the fact I've always had it on empower and enlighten just looked foreign to me. At the time my fuel level was very low and about 10 miles later I refueled. The distance to empty went from my usual 650ish down to 525. If the estimation to empty changed at the reset it did not change significantly enough to be noticeable. As a result of reading other posts on this blog I am not too panicked about this but will have it taken care of the next time I'm at the dealership.

On a positive note the reset to the long term mileage has given me more of an instant readout of my current driving. More specifically it has shown me that I was accelerating too harshly. The trip mileage going to and from work has improved by about 10 mpg and and overall my new long term is right at 40. Previous to the reset it was somewhere around 36-37 and also before this I felt like my best mileage was moderate highway driving getting in the lower 40s with the cruise set at 65. Admittedly I probably was hammering the accelerator particularly in the mornings on the way to work but for the most part I felt like I was driving reasonably miserly, particularly compared to my pre-FFH driving style.

There are a couple of other things that can cause this; mostly a 12 v problem. My resets occurred when starting, yours happened while driving. The TSB refers to those resets while starting. They will check for other DTCs when doing the TSB. I wouldn't wait since it occurred while driving.

I had the TSB 10-15-5 done last year and have had no more dash mode resets. I have had a strange occurrence twice in the last several months. I display the bar graphs of mileage instead of the leaves. When you turn the car off and then on again, the previous bars are partially erased and are only dimly visible. Twice, on starting, the graph has appeared to be not erased and a whole string of 0 mpg. graphs is displayed at normal brightness as if the car had not been turned off. The car had been turned off and the key removed. It's like that erase function failed to occur on shutdown. TSB 10-15-5 also changed the bar graphs in another way. Before, the time interval chosen started anew on start up. After 10-15-5, the interval continued from what was left at shutdown.
