X Plan vs. haggling

I'm thinking of buying a Fusion and qualify for Ford's X Plan. Never used this before, so can anyone tell me if it's better than haggling/negotiating? Can rebates be applied to prices under this plan? Also, can trade-ins be applied after the plan pricing? I'm looking to pay completely in cash (no loans or leasing) and have a trade-in worth approx. 2K. Thanks!

X-Plan is better than negotiating 99.9% of the time. All rebates apply including dealer cash. You can trade in your vehicle but do not expect to get more than fair tradein value.

If a dealer tells you they will sell you a vehicle at x-plan price and you won't need a PIN, you will pay more because they will not give you all the incentives available under the x-plan.

Tell them you are an x-plan buyer up front. They are not obligated to sell you a vehicle just because you have a PIN.

Also with the X plan, the dealer is limited to how much they can add on for documentation fees.

The dealer saying '"We'll match the X plan price" without a PIN number, means they will end up with more of your money than if you buy with the X plan.

The doc fee is limited to $100 instead of the usual $200 - $300.

The reason you should be wary of any dealer that turns down a X plan pin but gives you the same price (supposedly) is that Ford gives the dealer an extra spiff check for several hundred dollars on each plan sale. So ask yourself this: why would the dealer turn down several hundred dollars in "free money" from Ford but give you the same price unless they were planning to make more than that elsewhere in the deal?

X plan is safe and you're protected from dealer games with doc fees, trade-ins, rebates, etc. There are exceptions - cars that have been on the lot for several months e.g. But those are rare.

Hi Peggy. :D Just chiming in to agree with what Grey, fusionff and akirby have stated/recommended. If you can get an X-Plan PIN, reading up on the Plan rules and using it would be your best course of action.

Good luck. :beerchug:

I thought it was pretty much standard pratice for the metro D dealers to ask you if you're A/X/Z/D plan anyways? But as it has been stated, get the X plan PIN. You get all factory to dealer incentives that apply and the dealer gets a reimbursement from Ford that they wouldn't if they just sell it to you a negotiated price and the doc fees are controlled.

Agreed. Go with X-plan pricing with advertised incentives, rebates.

Word of Caution - when I bought my car on X-plan the dealer STILL tried to stick me with $1500 in dealer add-on BS (window etching/warranty, tire warranty, anti-theft BS). I told them it was a deal-breaker and got up from the table. They gave me that crap for free after that...

It's not only BS - x plan rules specifically prohibit dealer add-ons without your permission.

And just FYI - how the dealer acquires the vehicle doesn't matter. They can trade with another dealer to get it or you can order exactly what you want from the factory. Doesn't change plan eligibility.
