Any Questions... I work at a Dealer

If anyone has any question I can help with, I will try to answer for you. I work at a Ford Dealership in PA??

SteveA27,

I sure hope you still participate on the Forum. If not, maybe someone else will jump in with an answer to my question: Are headlight bulbs covered on the 36,000-mile, bumper-to-bumper warranty?

The headlights on the Fusion are one of the car's most distinctive features but the bulbs on our 2000 Focus have burnt out on average about every six months since we bought it new. I checked the owner's manual for the Fusion and was very dismayed by how complicated it is to change a bulb. An inspection of the engine compartment was even more intimidating.

For the first time since 1958 I have a car that I can't possibly replace the headlight by myself. This is a very disturbing development, in my book. Are there any 2006 or 2007 Fusion owners on this Forum that have had to replace the bulbs? There are six: two low beams, two high beam and two fog lamps on the SEL.

How much is a dealer going to charge to replace a $7 bulb? It appears that several things might have to be removed to do it on either side. I'm guessing it will take an hour. That probably means $80 plus the bulb. If these things don't last longer than the ones in the Focus then I am headed for the poor house. :anger:

Does anyone have any comments on this subject?

Do you have a moonroof?
No moonroof. My only interior light (besides the lighted visor mirrors) is the center dome light with two "bullet" lights that can be turned on seperately and illuminate the front seat. My 96 mystique not only had footwell lights but the door handles had a soft green illumination to them at night. At least the headlights and fog lights are really good.

Snowman1,

Our '07 SEL AWD (with moon roof) has two interior lamp pods, front and rear, in the headliner. The passenger seat back also folds down, toward the dash. Believe this is the case for all SELs built after Labor Day '06.

Hey URNEWS,

Just a question on your headlamp bulb replacement on your focus, are you touching the glass part of the bulb with your fingers? Halogen headlamp bulbs won't last long of you get oil from your skin on them! The skin oil creates a hot spot on the bulb which in turn burns them out. If you're not touching the glass part, then you either have leaking lamp assemblies (moisture) or an electrical problem. We see a very low frequency of headlamp bulbs burning out! Just wondering 'cause you keep bringing this up on this forum.

No, Scott, I do not touch the glass portion of the bulbs. The Focus has been burning out bulbs since it was purchased new in 2000. The average has been from six months to a year. I replace both bulbs when one burns out and the plastic connectors have deteriorated, crystalized. One has been replaced, both are do to be replaced with the next bulb change. I believe they overheat.

I know of at least two other owners who have had exactly the same problem. I drive with the lights on all of the time, for safety. There is no evidence of water leakage, moisture buildup. I have tried several different brands of bulbs with the same results. It is a perplexing problem, one I have just accepted as a fact of life. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Fortunately, the bulbs are easy to replace. I have the procedure down to about five minutes.

If anyone has any question I can help with, I will try to answer for you. I work at a Ford Dealership in PA??

SteveA27:

Thanks for making yourself avaliable for questions. I have a 2006 Fusion SEL with 45 k miles. Love the car, but there is an annoying buzzing that occurs in the dash behind the steering wheel when I am pressing the accelerator pedal. It stops when I let up on the pedal. Drives me nuts. Any service bulletins on this? Any insights would be very much appreciated.

I am an old car guy retired from atlanta 1998 but unfamiliar with synthentic motor oils.

Just purchased a new milan 3.0 and would like the real lowdown on synthetic oil from

someone who has used for say 100k miles. Want to start my new milan off right for long life.

Your opinion will be useful.

Thanks

David - the Motorcraft 5W-20 oil that your Milan has from the factory and dealer is a synthetic blend already so switching to full synthetic won't buy you much more than what you already have. It is formulated to go 7500 miles between changes.

One of the biggest benefits of full synthetics is that they can be formulated to flow easily in extreme cold.

I'd recommend sticking with Motorcraft 5W-20 but if you do switch make sure the oil meets the specs in the owner's manual or you could have a problem with the warranty. Also remember the engine is covered for 5 yrs/60K miles.

Why is there no cam shaft pulley guard on the '08 SEL V6. There is one on the '07 V6 engines but the parts department told me that the plastic pulley guard for the '08 is not a serviceable part. Meaning you can't get one without ordering one for an '07 and paying $100 for it. That sure don't make any sense.

I almost got my shirt sleeve caught in it while the engine was running.

Will the new 2009 Fusion be at dealers in June?

When in June?

Will it have a refreshed body or just be a carryover?

When will the 2009 brochure be available?

Hi ArmyDT. :D Here you go:

1 - Late June, yes.

2 - Should be there by early July Some Dealers by very late June.

3 - The 2009 is a styling carryover and will be a short model year. The 2010 Model Year will have the refreshing, and will be in Dealers early in 2009.

4 - They are already in Dealers. Some Dealers have not put them out yet, as they are still trying to sell 2008 models. Some Dealers may be out of them. Some Dealers may not have them yet, etc etc.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Isn't Job 1 for the 09 Fusions on June 2nd? If so, I wouldn't count on many dealers having them by late May... ;)

Hi Mutnat. :D Thanks. I knew that, but was stricken by a Brain Cloud. :hysterical:

Edited and good luck. :beerchug:

Sorry I have been off this site for ever. I'M BACK!!! The 2010 is the new car. The 2009 is carry over but does have a few changes. Nothing big. They do have a new "blue sport pkg" mainly like the 2008 Sport pkg only with blue seat inlays. The 2010 is due for a Dec 2008 (yes I said 2008) Job 1!! It seems like it will be very very much changed. I hear new eng/trans new front and rear, new inside aswell. I am looking for the best spy shots I can find..... Anyway I'm back and if I can help let me know!!!!

Steve when I first saw your username I thought it was Steve 2A6, as in your objective. Are you going to hit it this month?

And yeah, what he said. The next gen will be good. Half of the parts, sheetmetal, you name it, of the vehicle will be brand spanking new over the 06-09 model...

2A6 is our dealer monthly sale goal. Sorry for the late reply. As for the smell. If you just bought your car is is very normal. I was alway told there is a clear coat on most of the under side of the car that burns of in the first 50-100 miles. It to keep the engine and manifolds for getting to rusted from sitting on the lot. Not sure if thats just B/S but after many many new Fords in my life they all smelled the same for the first few days. Some worse that others but it does burn off or whatever cause it does go away. Hope that helps. By the way my Fusion was one of the worst for the smell.
