Any Questions... I work at a Dealer

SteveA27,

I sure hope you still participate on the Forum. If not, maybe someone else will jump in with an answer to my question: Are headlight bulbs covered on the 36,000-mile, bumper-to-bumper warranty?

The headlights on the Fusion are one of the car's most distinctive features but the bulbs on our 2000 Focus have burnt out on average about every six months since we bought it new. I checked the owner's manual for the Fusion and was very dismayed by how complicated it is to change a bulb. An inspection of the engine compartment was even more intimidating.

Does anyone have any comments on this subject?

Boz

Boz - check with the service manager at your dealership and see if they can program your vehicle for DRL's. In most vehicles the Daytime Running Lights operate at about 60% power which should save bulbs. If DRL's were a fleet option, or the vehicle was sold in Canada with DRL's, there should be a way to retrofit or reprogram for your vehicle.

I was wondering when dealers are supposed to be getting the 2010 Fusion in stock. I'm looking to get the fusion sport in mid April if it's available at my dealerships in the Florida panhandle. Any input would be appreciated.

Ford just gave the "OK to SHIP" Monday. They should be showing up any day now.

Hi russellkenneth. :D Congratulations on your new Fusion and I am sorry to hear about your problems. While it is difficult to impossible to diagnose noises over the Internet, I can tell you this: Clunking noises when turning are not normal noises for properly operating Fusions.

The cause could be varied: A loose strut/shock (Fusions use shocks), some other loose suspension component, a bad half-shaft, etc etc. But without further information (i.e. how often, speed this occurs, etc etc) it is futile to guess.

Is your Fusion still under the original Bumper to Bumper Warranty? If it is, you can take it to another Dealership that is more customer friendly and competent. Or you can take it back to your Dealership and ask to speak to the Service Manager (not a Tech or Service Writer) and give them another shot. Or do you have any type of Used Vehicle Warranty through the Dealership? If you do, take it back and speak to the Service Manager, again letting them know that this is not a "normal noise" for a Fusion, or any car.

If you have no type of Warranty and will be paying out of pocket anyway, I would take it to a shop that specializes in suspension work for diagnosis and repair.

Only you can decide what is the best course of action.

Also, if you are interested, there is another Fusion/Milan/MKZ club available. While it is a nice forum here, the other club is much more active. You can visit it at LINK: Ford Fusion Club

Let us know how you make out, and good luck with your Fusion. :beerchug:

If the noise is only in the steering wheel it could be a problem with the steering angle senor. Sometimes certain cavity combinations of molded plastic parts can cause this.

Did it ever get fixed?

Hello, Just finished replacing a 2008 engine with a 2009. Did it by the book. It wont turn over. Do I have to have the PCM reprogrammed? Battery is good and I doubled checked the starter. When I turn on the key it draws down the battery.

Hi Tom. :D Just a wild Internet guess - Among numerous possibilities, perhaps the IKT's need to be programmed/reprogrammed?

Good luck. :beerchug:

How do i save music from a CD onto the hard drive?

For starters, suggest you read the Sync Guide that came with your car.

Do you have the Nav system with touch screen and the Jukebox function? If so, I found these instructions in another Ford forum:

Saving music to your jukebox

To record (save) music to your jukebox:

1. Ensure that the system is on.

2. Insert a CD into the system. The CD tab will appear.

3. Select ‘Record’ on the touchscreen.

4. Select either individual tracks or press ‘Select All’ to record the entire CD.

Note: The system will default to selecting all tracks if none are selected.

5. Press ‘Start Recording’.

The progress will show at the bottom of the screen.

When the recording process is finished, the system will save your track(s) / CD to the Jukebox.

It will take anywhere from 20-30 minutes per CD...as it doesn't just copy them, it actually records them...slowly.

Good luck!

My wife and I have had our 2012 Fusion S for about seven months and it has about 3K miles on it. So far, the quality has been as good as any new Honda or Toyota we have bought in the past.

Question: There is a small split / cut (1/4") in the dashboard. This seemed to have happened overnight. I have bad allergies so I'm always dusting off the dash. It seems like one day it was not there and the next day it was. My dealership looked at it and told me that they would replace the dash with a new one. However, I have been advised by some that I should not let the dealership do that because it is a PITA to replace a dash and that it will never fit as good as the one from the factory does and that I am in for a lot of squeaks and rattles if I let them replace it. Is there a way that I can have someone do some kind of "fix" to the dash under warranty as opposed to replacing the entire dash? I can live with it for the moment, but if it gets much bigger it will be hard to live with. Have you ever seen this happen on any other new Fusions? I know darn well that I did not cut the dash because I am very anal about my cars and treat them with kid gloves. Heck, I don't even use any kind of "protectant" on the interior because I believe that that stuff is harmful to the plastic.

Do you have any advice as to what I should do?

I am replacing the 2.3 inline 4 cylinder engine in a friends 2006 Fusion. I am working in my home garage and want to pull the engine out the top with my cherry picker instead of dropping it out of the bottom. I have done this with great sucess on many other front wheel drive cars. I have everything off and ready to pull out except I cant find access to get at the torque converter bolts. Not enough room through the starter opening. I dont see any covers on the bellhousing. How can I get at the converter bolts?????

Thanks for your help.

I'm gonna answer my own question! I pulled the oil pan and had access to the converter nuts. A better idea from Ford? How much extra seriously would it have been to provide an access panel? Been a Ford guy all my life. I think it's time for a change!

I am having a problem with my 2006 Fusion SEL. The cruise control is very intermittent. Sometimes the buttons don't work at all and sometimes they perform the wrong function. Does anyone have any ideas I can look into without going to a dealer?

Could be the switch itself. Are you noticing any other intermittent operation from the steering wheel buttons (like radio control)? It could also be the clock spring which provides the connection between the car wiring and steering wheel controls while allowing the steering wheel to be turned.

So I tried to check in PTS / Catalog Advantage, but can you verify if the upper & lower intake manifolds are the same between the following:

2010-2012 Fusion Sport (3.5L)

2008-2012 Taurus (3.5L non-GTDI)

2008-2009 Taurus X

2007-2010 Edge (3.5L)

I believe that they're all the same on the 3.5L VCT motor, but I want to make sure.

Thanks!

The only thing intermittent is the cruise. Could there possibly be a connector somewhere accessible that might be corroded? Is the clock spring easy to access?

Probably the switch although it could still be the clock spring. You have to pull the steering wheel to get at the clock spring. Not sure about the switch.

Steve, So I just recently bought a 2006 Ford Fusion SE l-4 and there are just a couple tweeks that I was wondering if you could help me with. :) First off the radio display screen doesn't illuminate. How can I fix that? Also my airbag light is on, but when I hooked it up there were no codes for it. What do you suggest I do? Then lastly... My driverside door and rear driverside doors don't lock automatically. I have to do it manually to lock them. they will unlock with my clicker, but not lock. They make a sound like they are trying to, but what do you think I will need to buy to replace? Thanks for your help!
