Filling gas tank from gas can

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Big problem trying to fill the tank of a new Ford Fusion from a gas can when you run out of gas (Or trying to put injector cleaner in the gas tank) because The gas tank is capless.

My dad made made a funnel for his Fusion out of some pipe and he can keep it in the trunk. I thought someone else might be interested in how he made it so I created a blog on google blogger that gives the directions and a picture.

it can be found here: caplessfueltank.blogspot.com

Hi parbilo. :D Or, you can use the one that Ford supplied with your car. If you read your Owners Manual, you will discover where it is located in your car and instruction on how to use it.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Yes, I did some searching on the web and found that Ford includes one after I made this post. The problem was that my Dad was unaware that the car came with one and he call both the dealer he bought the car from and another Ford dealer and neither knew of a funnel. He wanted to buy one. Maybe they just didn't think to tell him that one came with it. And I guess he missed that in the owners manual.

Hi parbilo. :D Just a quick hint which may or may not be helpful in the future: While I am not sure who your father called, many people make the mistake of calling the Salesperson or other showroom staff for these types of questions. The capless system has been around for several model years now, so it is not a new frontier. Anyway, always call the Parts Department with these types of parts questions, as they are the most qualified to answer and have the parts database at their fingertips on their computers. Or secondarily, speak to the Service Department staff. But never the Sales people. Unless you have a conscientious Salesperson, they will usually not be very helpful with this type of problem.

If he did call the Parts Department this time, then he needs a new Dealer for parts and service (or a prayer book) in the future.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Yeah but injector cleaner can never hurt

If that was true then why would Ford specifically recommend against it?

Some chemicals can hurt the engine which is why Ford recommends against it. Chances are it won't but it is possible. Injector cleaner does have cleaners otherwise it wouldn't work. Raising the octane doesn't clean anything.

yea i have 9000 miles on my sport i had it around 8 months now. so what color is your sport do you have any pics

They must have fooled you into buying the injector cleaner , typical of a dealer and they must have charged you triple the price. Please if your going to buy this stuff go to like a local parts store. By the way what stealership sold you injector cleaner ? I see you live in NYC as well
