Performance parts, and results

Hey y'all I just bought a 2010 ford fusion sport. Red. She's a beaut! And I've been looking online at performance parts. Some say the resulting horse power and torque. Also how low springs will lower, and if sway bars are worth buying. Thanks Chris

The car is already pretty well optimized. Some people put on the Steeda cold air intakes. Without a tune, you're only going to get 5 maybe 10 HP max above 4000 rpm at the expense of low end torque. With the tune, you will get the extra 25 hp on premium, but think about voiding your warranty before you reprogram the PCM. The lowering springs will lower the car by about 1.4 inches. I don't know if the handling of the car will be better or worse because the camber will be different (more negative). Your car already has decent front and rear sway-bars, so I don't know if the aftermarket ones are really any stiffer or better. I think it's a pretty decent car stock and choose to keep mine that way, but perhaps others with some of these mods can chime in with their impressions. Most of the aftermarket stuff makes much bigger differences on the lower spec non-Sport Fusions. One thing you can do is put different tires on. The Goodyear RS-A's are okay, but there are better tires out there for handling and inclement weather traction.

Thanks man! I've read a couple of the threads where people have put cai and exhaust. But I wonder if there's a turbo, or s/c kit for the 3.5L. I'd rather not void the warranty. But I take real good care of my vehicles. One has 260,000 miles on it. Ford of course. I'm looking for a little wider tires to get more grip off the line. ThAnks for the advice.

Oh, I think we all would like it if forced induction were available for the 3.5! :burnout: I just don't think any extra hardware would fit! You could maybe get a turbo in the front left fender but the plumbing would be a pain.

There is a supercharger kit for the 3.0 Fusions, but you need a different hood. Check this out: http://www.fordfusio...?topic=160790.0 Maybe you could do something like the supercharged Taurus at the bottom of the page!

I added the Steeda CAI on my 2010 Sport and did an SCT re-flash with the 89 octane tune. I noticed an improvement all across the rpm spectrum and firmer faster shifts. I tried a Magnaflow catback on the car, but the only thing it did was make the car louder, no documentable improvement in performance. There was an annoying drone at about 1500-1800 RPM cruising. I did see an improvement in mid range on up power with another mod I performed with the assistance of a good friend here locally who owns and runs a high performance exhaust shop here in town. We "fixed" the y-pipe on the car by removing it and getting rid of the D-shape in the tube running between the front and rear cylinder banks and also in the tube from the Y back to the flex pipe. It worked better than I expected. Oh yeah, on a 1600 mile round trip back in Summer I was routinely getting 29 MPG average at 80 MPH on the interstate.

I agree the car needs more grip, as I can easily roast the tires off the line (traction control off obviously.) I think I'm going to try Eagle GT's on it. I have them on my son's 2005 Focus ZX5 (5-speed stick), and they do a much better job than the OEM tires did.

With the Steeda CAI & tune, I've always wondered if most of the improvement comes from the intake or the tune. I suspect everything below about 4500 rpm is mostly from the tune with more aggressive timing, throttle response, and shift feel.

I'm also curious if you noticed a big difference in city fuel economy or not (I wouldn't expect highway mileage to change all that much, maybe 1-2 mpg with a little bit more timing on higher octane gas).

I just ordered the CAI from Steeda. With the car completely stock I'm averaging 27.2. The dash reading was 31.1. Max speed 65. And I'm babying it at each stop light. But ive had it WOT twice up to 100ish. Also my 1/4 mile time the other night was 15.12 @93mph. The temperature outside was 60 degrees fairenheight. I hoping to get a 2 more mpg and be in the 14s! I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I have a 10 mile each direction commute with only about 2 miles of it non-interstate. I usually go about 75-80 on the interstate section and I'm a notorious lead foot, but I'm still getting about 25-26 MPG on my commute with a bit of around town to lunch and back thrown in. I have the engine on Mobile 1 0W-20. I really can't say what the influence was on city driving mileage was since I really don't do that much of it. The CAI and the tune seemed to have about an equal effect on performance a WOT, but I can tell you that the tune definitely had a much bigger effect on part throttle performance than the CAI did, just as you would expect. With FWD only the car can easily overpower the front tires in 1st gear, more power would be awesome, but the average person would have a hard time using it effectively. If you're used to high powered cars and effectively part throttling through the lowest gears, more power could be very fun! I'd love the Eco Boost 3.5 in my FWD Sport, but it wouldn't make much sense for the average driver. It would really need to be an AWD car.

I agree. That much power would have to be in an awd. My foot gets really heavy on the long ride to and from work. And it's nice to cruise up on someone and blow by them and know I'm still getting 27ish mpg!!!! But Steeda has yet to ship my intake. And they double charged me for it.... But after a long conversation with them I got it resolved. And should be shipped this week. Hopefully...

That was just the CAI. The weather was in my favor. It was 55 degrees out so my car was breathing strong. Tj my tuner and car had a hiccup. I installed it and after a joy ride I parked it. Got in about 2 hours later to go to work and my car wouldn't start....I talked to Gus and he told me to put it back to stock, and try programming it again. Any word of this happening to anyone else??? After I reprogrammed it, it was fine. I noticed a little bit stronger pull around 1-3 gear. Not a lot but it's only 87. I'll. Run the 93 when I go to moroso next Friday.

I purchased the Steeda Lowering Springs for my 2012 Blue Flame Fusion Sport about a month ago and it made a big Difference in Handling and the ride is Firmer and u don't have the Nose dive when u hit the brakes or the nose in the air ass squat on acceleration lol ...I LOVE THEM AND WOULD RECOMMEND THEM OVER ANY OTHER LOWERING SPRING FOR THE FUSIONS ..... TJ was a Big Help in my decision on the Purchase as my Fusion only had 12 miles on it and I didn't want any factory warranty issues due to lowering it and he said that Steeda backs there part %100 and will back us if their part fails and causes any problems on our cars with Warranty's.... Thanks again TJ for all ur help ...

I really love the look the lowering springs give it and love that Steeda is behind their product that much. I have a question for you. When you have 2 adults in the back does the car lower a lot more? That is one problem I had with my old car is with the lowering springs being so soft that when people sat in the car, it made the car look like the springs/shocks were shot. If they are stiff enough to help with nose dive and squat while driving I would take it they are a stiffer 'sport' spring.
