Josh
So I am new to the forums and I am looking to purchase a 2012 Fusion SE or SEL. I just found out this afternoon that I am X-plan eligible through my employer. However, since I am a recent graduate, I am also eligible for the $500 recent grad discount. As well as the $500 ford credit bonus cash, $1000 retail customer cash, and $1000 Promotional Retail Bonus Customer Cash. So in total I get $3000 in rebates without the X-plan. However, with the X-plan I have found that I get $1000 in incentives plus the $500 from Ford credit, and It is actually cheaper to go without the X-plan. Plus without the Xplan I still have lots of room for negotiation. Is there something that I am missing on the rebates with the x-plan? As from what I have read on this site is that you are almost always better off to go with the x-plan. Thanks for your help.

Hi Josh. :D You're not the first to believe that they can do better without the X-Plan than with it. The vast majority are mistaken and only believe so because they do not know how the X-Plan truly works. For example, with the X-Plan, a customer is eligible for all publicly available Incentives/Rebates, plus there are often "X-Plan only" Incentives available. Now, while we can't be sure since we do not have enough information, I believe that would mean you would be eligible for all of the Incentives you mention except for possibly the "Recent Grad discount" (I believe). And while you feel "...without the Xplan I still have lots of room for negotiation", that is really not the case. Always keep in mind that the Dealership personnel hold the upper hand in all negotiations. They can sell or not sell, up to them. Someone else will always come in at a later date to buy that car if you don't. In reality, the more realistic "room for negotiation" without the X-Plan is for them to take more money out of your wallet. Here is the best thing you can do: Speak to your HR Dept. to get your company password for the Ford Partner Company" X-Plan website. Then go to and register on the site. That site has tons of useful information concerning how the X-Plan works, available Incentives for X-Plan buyers, the ability to check Dealer inventories and see X-Plan prices on individual vehicles, etc. etc... It should be able to answer all of your questions. If not, free to post back with any questions you may have. Let us know how you make out and good luck. :beerchug: Edited December 11, 2011 by bbf2530

The thing that I was unsure of was the additional $1000 rebate that was on the public site. I know the recent grad discount isn't valid on any plan deals because I read the terms on it. I hope to buy it soon!!! Thanks for the help, and now I know that this is my best route. I hope to buy it soon!!!

Zag is showing a total discount of $2,000 (plus much lower combined dealer fees under their plan) and even Edmunds is showing a total incentive discount of $1,500. So it appears that X Plan is not necessarily that great. Edited December 12, 2011 by futurefordfusion
Grey
You need to ask the dealership to run a VinCent report on a vehicle in stock to see what incentives are available and what can be combined. Sometimes there is some confusion as to what is out there, even for the dealership personnel. The VinCent system is the final authority. It is rare that they could/would offer a price lower than X-Plan.
akirby
I've NEVER seen a public incentive that wasn't also available with X plan. And by public I mean those available to anyone, not the ones that are restricted like college grad/military/etc. In some cases X plan will have more rebates than a regular sale, especially if there is dealer cash involved. It is possible to beat X plan using one of the restricted rebates (college grad/military/AQHA/experimental aircraft assn, etc.) IF you can get a good price close to invoice with low doc fees. But you need to be careful - the doc fees on X plan are limited to $100 whereas without X plan they could be as high as $600. X plan on a fusion plus the doc fee is going to be around $200-$250 over true dealer invoice minus rebates. That will be tough to beat. You can't go by the Ford website - there are a lot of local incentives that are not shown. Have the dealer run a Vincent report as Grey suggested both with and without X plan - that will show you exactly the difference. And I'd be shocked if you didn't get the same public rebates on both or more on X plan.
Josh
Alright, I am planning to go back to the dealer tomorrow to inquire more about the Xplan and other rebates. I will have them run VinCent report with and without the xplan. Thanks for the help!
locoone
I ended up with an excellent dealer who worked with me to get the car I wanted and actually did a dealer trade to get it after locating it. Sticker was 29,700 and after using x plan (DAV), 1500 rebate, 2000 down, and some dealing, I ended up at 23500 (add on gap and disability= 25ish). But don't go in blind trusting the salesman to know all. Remember that the more they sell a car for the more commission. My salesman was of the mindset the more he moves the more he can make and was willing to help and deal. And definitely don't be afraid to walk if something doesn't feel or seem right, you owe them nothing. I walked on one over a mustang he tried to hard sell, got my info and set up financing (unbeknownst to me and unauthorized)before I even test drove the car. Pissed him off 2 weeks later when I drove up with a new car with different dealer plates to pick up parts. Just educate yourself to the utmost, ask slot of questions here, and research the car your looking at. Check other dealers also for their pricing on the car and talk to them on the phone, they may be wanting to move some inventory. My dealer was an hour away, but the car was a 5 hr drive ti pick up, i did the dealer swap delivery for them to save 300 bucks.Don't leave the salesman any wiggle room. If your unsure of something he says ask him to explain it then tell him you'll need to research it and nicely excuse yourself to do so and then go do it. Doing this once or twice will get him scared to say anything wrong. Also check prices nation wide, the price varies slightly area to area. Grey
Incentives are date and zip code specific - the zip code that the vehicle will be registered in. Each dealership is a member of a dealer group that decides how their local advertising funds will be used. Occasionally a group will put an incentive on a vehicle line or specific model that is not available in the rest of the country (like $500 on F150 supercabs with V8 engines to help get rid of existing inventories.) The zip code is the first qualifer in the VinCent system and you can get all the incentives you are eligible for, no matter where you buy. You must have a specific VIN to inquiry the system. Incentives can change from one day to the next.
Josh
Thanks for the info. So I went to my local dealer and inquired about the xplan and they said that without the xplan I could use the college discount and get and possibly save another $200 or so. I am going to a few other dealers in the Indy area. Anyone have any comments on any Indy dealers? Thanks!

HOWEVER - you MUST check the doc fee. With X plan the doc fee is limited to $100. Without X plan they could charge you as much as $600. So they could tell you they're saving you $200 over the X plan price but then add the $600 doc fee on top of that. Just make sure you get the Out the Door price on both options to make sure it's really cheaper.
