Audio dilema

So I recently got the Fusion SEL. The Audiophile sound system is not worthy by any means. I have a Pioneer deck, 800watt Sub and an 800watt amp, as well as front component, 3-way rear door 6x8 and the rear deck 3-way 6x9's to install. I looked all over the place for a Fusion stereo adapter but to no avail. As well, there were no antenna adapters. I've never seen a more retarded antenna plugin. Also, nobody makes the steering-wheel control adapter for the Fusion yet either. I also had an amp for the surround speakers but I had to sell it back for the money (yea, so what lol). I'll get another one soon though.

As far as I know.

Is there anyone out there who's been able to find these things for their own Fusions? I'm really missing the boom of that 15' drum on Blue Man Group's Audio CD, and the crispiness of the highs dinging around my head!

Here's what I'm looking for in case you don't want to read everything up there again:

Fusion to Pioneer stereo adapter

Fusion to Pioneer steering-wheel control adapter

Fusion antenna adapter

The antenna plug is actually the same as late model Chrysler vehicles. I'm guessing it's a Euro type plug.

NaplesBill, In case you have not already contacted Crutchfield. They should have the items you need. I just installed a Pioneer headunit in my Milan. It came with all the required adapters, etc. (harness, antenna). I also purchased the Pac Audio SWI-PS which allowed me to retain the steering wheel controls. You can go online and check compatability by entering you car and putting the items in your cart or just give them a call. they have great Tech support. If you make the switch be sure to also connect the antenna power wire (pin 5) to turn on the antenna booster (this is something I discovered along with their help that they will now be informing customers about). Even with the harness it does require some cutting of the factory harness (or tapping into if you have all the right connectors) I actually have an extra antenna adapter in you are interested in it (cheap). Also, here is a referral code for $20.00 off $200.00 if you are spending that much

Referral code: p58y4-06bvy-acju6

Good luck! Let me know if you need any pointers, I'll be glad to help if I can

You only lose audio control on the wheel. The layout sucks anyway, the buttons are too small.

And can anyone tell me why the temp and fan button locations on the wheel are opposite of what they are on the auto HVAC controls on the dash?!? :banghead:

eiching1 said he used the Pac Audio SWI-PS with his pioneer so he would not lose the steering wheel audio buttons, I just wanted to make sure he didn't lose any funtions on the steering wheel.

But I agree with you the placements aren't great, I keep turning down the fan by mistake.

Doesn't the PAC just beam an infrared remote signal at the receiver? Pretty freakin' cheesy.

The radio related ergonomics on the Fusion aren't bad...its the first car where I hardly use the Alpine remote.

This may be off topic however..........

I keep hearing the ads for HD Radio. The way they make it sound is that they use the "space between the existing radio stations" for HD Radio. To me, that sounds like they are transmitting on the "even" freqs.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. I was talking with a guy in an audio shop where they sell HD Radio. It is on the exact same freqs as regular radio. Matter of fact, it is the exact same program as regular radio. He used local 104.7 as an example. All it really does is it (and these are my words) makes the sound better to your ears, like HD TV makes it better to your eyes.

(my words again -----) I liked the old "Reverberators" that they used to sell 30 odd years ago, as they also made the music sound great.

And here I thought I could listen to stuff on the "even" freqs, not just the "odd" freqs. They sure make it sound good in their ads though.

Isn't HD digital? There are probably digital data packets sent on the same frequency?

Uh, yep - here you go. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hd_radio

This is going to be great when the government mandates all HD for TV and radio...hopefully HD to analog converters will get cheap since every old analog TV/Radio/VCR/whatever is going to need one. Maybe this is a business to get into and make a trillion $$.

Use of the term HD is a bit misleading (intentionally I think) since High Definition only applies to video, not audio.

It's just like being able to use multiple PCs on one internet connection. They broadcast a digital signal over the analog channel and that digital signal can contain multiple virtual channels each with a different program. The problem is the more virtual channels you use the less bandwidth you can devote to each one and quality suffers. Exactly the same issue with digital TV multicasting.

It's definitely the future because it allows more unique programs using the same number of analog frequencies.

Hey Guys, I haven't checked in in awhile. Yes, I used the PAC- SWI-PS. I did not lose any of the controls on my steering wheel. However, as a note, I do not have the automatic climate control system with those buttons on the wheel. Just stereo on the right and cruise on the left. I don't see how it would effect them since the wires are being pulled off the radio harness, but who knows? The Pac unit is programable so I was able to program the media button to "mute" instead. The Pac unit plugs into the "wired remote" jack in the back of the radio. So your radio has to have that (so no it is not a IR wireless signal)

"(pin 5) to turn on the antenna booster (this is something I discovered along with their help that they will now be informing customers about). Even with the harness it does require some cutting of the factory harness (or tapping into if you have all the right connectors)"

How do I find pin 5? And when I do, I just connect the power antenna lead off the radio to it?

Hi rockonIT,

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the same problem and don't know where to connect the powered antenna wire to get power after installing an aftermarket head unit.

Thanks, Bill
