TheSportsPredictor
Hi, guys, I'd appreciate some advice here. I am in need of new tires on a 2008 SEL FWD. Now, I received one quote and it's rather expensive, though certainly in line with what I'm seeing as far as tire prices go. They are Pirelli P4 Four Season, price would be $159.83 apiece. Now that's a lot of money for four new tires, but they have 70K mile warranty (which is where I am now). Also was quoted $14.95 per tire for installation. Still, I would think I could go cheaper and have a nice set of tires. So any advice on what type of tires I could look at that would be cheaper, or is this the kind of price I should be expecting to pay? Thanks in advance.
midas
Check out Tire Rack. They don't even show the P4 anymore, but list the P6 at $144 each. They do list a lot of tires much cheaper, but they also list a lot much higher. Read all the reviews and pick out what features are important to you. My personal favorite tire is the Goodyear Assurance Comfortread Touring, but that's even more expensive at $169 a tire.
TheSportsPredictor
Thanks. I don't think that particular tire is going to be much cheaper anywhere else. I saw it on one site like that, and it was like $10-15 cheaper, which by the time you order it and find someone to put it on, blah blah blah, all the hassle equals out. I'm wondering, should I expect to find a comparable tire 30 or 40 cheaper, or is the 150-160 the going rate for any decent new tire now?
midas
Personally I stay away from Hankook and Kumho. And for the Fusion, I'd concentrate on Grand Touring tires. That puts the lowest price (again from Tire Rack) at $125 for a General. It has decent reviews. After that, ignoring the 2 brands I don't like, you're back up in the same price range as the Pirelli and up it goes from there. But be careful, the P6 does not have a very good rating. Like I said earlier, they don't even list the P4 so no real idea on that one.
TheSportsPredictor
Thanks again. Been looking around and really not seeing much cheaper that looks like a highly rated tire unless there are rebates involved. Goodyear is giving a rebate of up to $160 on four tires (if you use their credit card, $80 if not). The Eagle GT fits my Fusion. That seems like a decent tire. Maybe I'll go that way.
