MazdaSpeed 6 Brakes on Fusion

Recommended Posts

Any one know if the 17" SEL wheels will clear the mazdaspeed 6 front brakes. I plan on keeping my stock 17's for my winter wheels and upgrading to some 19's for summer. Also could someone post the part #'s needed and where you found them and prices?

Because this is a brand new mod for Fusions, I'm sure that no one knows for sure, but it is highly likely that they will. I'm reasonably sure that the wheel clearance specs for the Mazda 6 and the Fusion are the same, and the Mazdaspeed 6 came from the factory with 17" wheels. What would be highly questionable is that they would clear 16" Fusion wheels. I was a pioneer in determining that they would clear Fusion Sport wheels. You may need to step up and do the same. If they don't fit, I would think it would be cured with some wheel shims, which I was reluctantly prepared to do if needed. That's what i would have had to do if I used the Brembo kit.

I was reading the thread over on fusion club and that seems to be the consensus that 17's will fit. With parts being hard to find, I might wait to see if something else will fit, like CX-9 brakes and if some one can source just the rear brackets (or make some) so we can reuse our fusion rear calipers.

I think thats where we are... a 17in stock mazda wheel not made for a BBK fits over this setup, so most are comfortable assuming a 17in stock ford wheel should also fit.

If i get off my lazy ass and install my brake setup I can borrow a 17in SEL wheel and bring us from 95% to certain

Installation complete....

just wanted to say thanks for the write up.

good info, in case i ever want to go there

I just upgraded to EBC slotted fronts because the brakes had a pulse, partly because i plan on autocrossing it, and don't know yet if the brakes will need any improvement for this.

Every centric part you can buy has one troubling part is they are showing up in different colors, Black or Copper? Rears look like they are dark gunmetal, but then the front left rotors that are in stock at stores are copper, but can get the front right rotor in black, but having fronts in copper and rears in black? Funny that a lot of the images have FOMOCO on them. Cannot find any images of rears in any color other than black, but the problem is no left fronts in stock that are matching color of rears, and the bad part is often the black centrics are shelf life rust protection, that wash off with water. the calipers will end up rusting unlike OEM calipers.

But the calipers you used in your conversion look more like OEM, or are they remanufactured, if they are brand new, then where can they be bought online?

When I was researching the installation for my car, Mazda dealers could provide new calipers and brackets. They were a bit more expensive though.

The calipers sourced through Centric are remanufactured. The remanufacturing appears to be very robust. I kept the original Fusion rear calipers and changed ony the brackets (the rear calipers are the same, but the brackets are different and not available by themselves).

If I were doing this today, there are two things I would do differently. I would spend the time and money to have the calipers powder coated. They will look better in the long run. I would use Hawk Ceramic Pads. The Stop Tech Street Performance Pads are filthy. Not quite as bad as BMW a few years ago, but still very filthy. I may still swap out the pads even though they show hardly any wear.

mazdaspeed shop online does sell OEM and yes it is more expensive but just like out of factory though

brackets come with calipers? like if I bought a Centric rear caliper, it comes with the brackets?

That's what I bought. I bought calipers which includes the brackets. I confirmed that new ones come that way too with the dealer I was considering buying new ones from before landing on the Centric rebuilt ones. That's how the Ford calpers come too.

Hello,

I just received my Centric front MS6 calipers in the mail, but they do not appear to have brackets.

Do we know if the Fusion brackets will work? Or if standard Mazda 6 brackets will work?

So can someone summarize this install with a part number list and the best source from what

you have all learned? Also, can you use the MazdaSpeed 6 dust shields as well so that there

is not bare rotor showing on the inside?

Thanks

I know this was an old thread, and I didn't really see anyone talking about the year of their Fusion that they were putting

this on. So, is this still an upgrade for a 2010 Sport? I see the caliper and brackets on ebay for about $40 a piece so it

could be done much cheaper. Just trying to understand, sorrry for the newbie is style questions.

Another Question. Did any of you put this on an AWD car? And if you did, do you know if the dust shields from

the MazdaSpeed 6 could be used as well. I get that some don't use them, but I am only interested to know if

anyone has information on if they would work or not.
