Looking at window tinting...

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2010 Fusion S model and looking to get some window tinting installed before the texas summer strikes again! Anybody have any input on types, %'s, installation places (if in the DFW area)?? Thanks!

I'm not in your area, or anywhere near, but I'm thinking of doing 50% in the front and 30% in the rear. Have you gotten your tints already?

Why do people call it's tints? You don't need the s at the end. Friend of mine does it for a living and it's his biggest pet peeve.

I did 10% on the back three windows, and went lighter on the front (20% I think). It's illegal here, but only the state police and a certain city will pull you over for it. In the last 10 years of having tinted windows i've received two tickets, and it's no points of fines if you have it removed in 14 days.

Can you post some pictures? I'd like to see it. Especially the 35% on the sides since I'm highly considering that when I do tints.

Here in NY, it's illegal to have aftermarket tints. Stock tint from the factory is fine, but nothing installed. I ended up ignoring that and got mine done. I went with the 35% on the 4 door windows and 5% on the rear windshield. I love the way it looks, I kind of wish I went with 20% on the door windows but I figured I rather play it safe. So far so good (knock on wood) that I have not gotten pulled over for it, but then again I don't drive like an idiot with music blasting to draw attention to myself. If I were you, depending on your state laws 35% with a 20-5% on the back is a safe bet.

Thanks for the pictures guys. Unfortunately I have to go lighter than I want because of state laws here in New Jersey. My car is going into the shop in two days. I'm going to do 50% in the front, 35% in the back, and maybe 5% on the back windshield, or I'll just go 35% all around. Cops are pretty annoying here, so I tend to play it safe.

What is your source for this information? The latest information available is that window tinting is legal in NY. The side windows must allow at least 70% of light in. This is covered under NY Vehicle and Traffic Law § 375 (12-a)( B)(2):

No person shall operate any motor vehicle upon any public highway,

road or street:

(1) the front windshield of which is composed of, covered by or

treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than

seventy percent unless such materials are limited to the uppermost six

inches of the windshield; or

(2) the sidewings or side windows of which on either side forward of

or adjacent to the operator's seat are composed of, covered by or

treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than

seventy percent; or

(3) if it is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe,

hatchback or convertible and any rear side window has a light

transmittance of less than seventy percent

In fact, a petition is circulating to get NY's window tint law repealed on the basis of recent studies finding that drivers have an increased risk of skin cancer on the left sides of their bodies. In my own case, I had a basal cell carcinoma surgically removed from my left ear last year.

Mine is 35% around (front excluded). I got a tint from a company called Huper Optik installed. It's pricey, but if you're really looking to keep your car cool it gets the job done. I have the Drei line installed, but they also make a ceramic tint that's less expensive but still pretty good.

The tint shop I went to, filled me in on that info. Didn't wanna risk it either way, the guy who did it explained he has always had at least 20% on the 4 doors and has never been pulled over. But, he recommended going 35% with limo on the back if I didn't want to risk it. The 35% looks more like a stock tint.

Oldguy16 I live in nj and I used to have 35% in the front and 5% everywhere else but I took off the 35 like a few months ago and put 5 all around and I don't rly get pulled over at all and I have the 5% strip on the windshield

You must be lucky lol because everyone around here gets tickets for stupid things like this. I figured not to risk anything. I'm fine with the way mine came out, I think it looks good. But if you'd like, post some pics, I'd like to see how 5% looks all around.

Where aborts in jersey are u I'm up in north and south all the time and it won't let me upload on here off my iPhone

Central, middlesex country. A couple of my friends have been pulled over, and I just said the risk to me wasn't worth it. I'm sure I'd be ok for a while, but i don't feel like getting a fine if i do get a cop who's in a bad mood.

Notice no tint is allowed in NJ for the front, hence why I went 50%, its so light I doubt I'll ever be bothered. But I have to say thanks for posting that chart because that's extremely helpful to other who are curious as to know the laws for their state.

I just got a 2012 Fusion S and had it tinted. In CT 35% is legal but I went with 28% all the way around. I don't think 35% is dark enough, and 28% isn't too dark that I fear getting pulled over.

Can you tell me where you got it done, I'm thinking about getting it done myself, as is my mother, who wants her Edge's front windows dark like the back ones

I'm also in ct and would like something darker than 35, do you have a pic of your ride with 28%? is it still light enough to see out at night?
