2013 Fusion 2.0T Ecoboost vs 2013 Hybrid performance

I really don't understand hybrids too much. I was just wondering what you guys thought the 0-60 times for these two cars would be. I'm going to have a very long commute for the next few years so I should get the hybrid, but I'm tempted by the 2.0T ecoboost engine coming out.

Are you looking for performance or gas mileage or a little of each? If you want rapid acceleration in a hybrid, then you're going to have to go with a Lexus GS350h or Infiniti M35h, both quite expensive.

Perhaps a 2013 Fusion with the 1.6 EcoBoost engine would be a good compromise for you. The projected MPGs are 26/37, making it the most fuel efficient non-rechargeable mid-size. It'll employ stop-start technology.

Is your commute mostly highway? If so you won't get the full benefit of the hybrid. If you value performance just get the 2.0T.

My total miles driven each month right now with a 100 mile daily commute plus regular driving is 3700. I might be moving and my commute could possibly go up to 4800 miles a month...mostly highway. My current Sport averages 21.5 with this commute so that ads up to $688 montly gas bill and when I move it will be $894...I'm currently getting an extra $300 a month for this commute but when I move I won't be getting that anymore.

I've heard good things about the 2.0T. If on this drive it got me into the high 20s it might be worth it. They hyrbid is 47 city and 44 highway...that would cut the fuel bil in half! Do you guys think it would actually get that?

My advice to you is test drive both models. Zero to sixty is not the hybrids strong point because of the CVT but from a roll I would bet the hybrid would win the race. I was torn between the Sport and the Hybrid until I drove them both, on my priorities the hybrid won hands down, and I have been way more than happy with my decision. I am a big believer now in the concept and will never go back, and the hybrid was less expensive than the sport.

What kind of mileage are you getting with your hybrid? Any guesses what I would get considering I'm driving mostly highway

Mileage varies on the highway. I have never had a fill up out of the 40's. My worst tank was 40.4 and that was with abut 60 highway 40 city. I have yet to take a longer trip of more than 500 miles highway. My average over 34,000 miles is at an accurate 44.5 as of my last fill up which was 44.4. I also have never had a tank that I could not break 700 miles on a fill up. My highest tank has been 55.7 but on that tank I filled after only 250 all city miles.

I make sure my tank is completely full when I do my math, meaning I don't stop filling when the pump clicks off as instructed in the manual.

From experience in all my other cars the method of stoping the fill when pump turns off severely affects the mileage numbers. I can always get more than a gallon usually more like two gallons when I top off the tank in my FFH. I don't stop filling until the gas is at the top of the filler neck, this is much harder to do with the cap less filler neck.

On the website that I post my numbers the average from all members is right at 39 mpg which is exactly the combined numbers advertised by Ford for this car. I try not to use ethanol and on my worst tank it did happen to have 10% mix, but on other tanks with this same mix I am at my average if, when, I use the mix but I have very limited data with mix gas only three tanks since I purchased the car. Winter gas did not change my mileage data, my worst winter tank was the 40.4 and my highest tank also happened in the same month of December at 55.7 with one other tank in the same month of 55.4 both those high numbers were city only without going more than 300 miles on the tank.

The great thing about any hybrid is it is up to the operator in controlling your mpg numbers, this can also be done in none hybrid but the hybrids achieve easier and much better results. No hyper milling tricks were done on any of my miles driven, I don't have the patience for what it takes to hyper mile; I just use my fuel wisely, and top off the tank, which takes a little patience.
