RichDe
The factory warranty on my '12 Fusion will be up in about 12 months. I received a packet of information from Ford for their Extended Warranty plan. I've got mixed feelings in general towards extended warranties. I haven't priced it out yet. My rough plan would be to keep the car for about 5-6 yrs, 75-85 K miles. Any recommendations?
dennisw
They want roughly $3,000.0 but you can talk it down some.
akirby
Don't forget you have a 5 yr/60K mile powertrain warranty to cover the engine, transmission and a few other parts. It's always a gamble but if you can afford to pay cash now for an extended warranty then you can probably afford to pay for any repairs and the odds are not in your favor. I'd keep the money in my pocket at this point.
Bert
You can check here for any type from Ford to see what the cost would be. They offer different kinds. http://www.fordwarrantys.com/

Hi Rich. :D In addition to the advice you have already received, see this existing thread concerning ESP Plans, good choices on where to find your lowest prices, etc. - http://www.fordfusionforum.com/index.php?/topic/6980-09-ford-fusion-extended-warranty/ Good luck. :beerchug:
Milananon
When I purchased my 2010 Milan, I didn't have the history on the car and I purchased a Factory Plus Preferred care through my Ford dealer. Issue is it has been about 6 weeks and I've asked twice for my Service Account Number and contract and I don't have it yet. Any ideas why it would be taking so long? The last remark I got was that it was all electronic, but he'd look into it.

Hi Milananon. :D While I can't explain why the Dealer does not provide a copy of the contract you signed though, they are correct when they told you "it was all electronic" (well, kind of correct...it is all computerized) as far as the Service Department verifying coverage when you bring the car in for service. In other words, no more little plastic ID card to show. Keep us updated and good luck. :beerchug: Edited April 12, 2012 by bbf2530
Milananon
The manager got back to me today and said I am all set, it is an active account and I can schedule some time with the Service Manager or him to discuss it, so I am going to go in and talk to him. While it's great it's all set, what happens when I'm on the road to nowhere and I have an incident, I think I need my contract or at least my login information for that situation. Unless his thinking is that I will always go back to him with my service needs. For the most part I will, so far they've been very good and responsive. As it happens, my drivers side heated mirror did not heat this morning, so I'll schedule an appointment and discuss with it them. Thanks.
mort
what happens when I'm on the road to nowhere and I have an incident, I think I need my contract or at least my login information for that situation. I believe the extended warranty is tied to the VIN. That's all any dealer will need. Also some of the extended warranties have 24 hour roadside assistance, meaning Ford will pay for towing. -mort
Milananon
Thanks folks. I went right to the source, the Customer Service rep from the Warranty Corp sent me my contract number and a copy of the coverage. Mort, you are absolutely right, I had to provide her with my VIN and I was all set. Because my car is a former rental, I really wanted the extended warranty. I think I'll ask the Dealer why he was reluctant to give me the contract number, but I think I have a good idea. Notably, she told me I can take my car anywhere I choose as long as they have a valid business license in that state, are in the US or Canada and call them first before doing any warranty work. My preference will be right back to the dealer, but I like the option.
