BAKNBLU
I just picked up my '12 Sport and contacted NST( www.nonstoptuning.com ) regarding producing underdrive pulleys for the Sport and they said if we could gain interest on the Forum then they will look at doing it. So how many would be interested?
BlackBetty
I think people would be more interested if they knew a price and what benefits they will get from one. I had one on my old Cougar with no problems, although I heard of people having alt. issues especially with the accessory pullys as well. I'm guessing that it will cost between 100-250? Plus shipping. Any idea about power gains?
BAKNBLU
From their website: "Normally, underdrive pulleys like the units found at NonStopTuning will increase engine output by 8 to 15 horsepower! This increase results in quarter-mile time improvements of .2 to .25 seconds, easily making this modification one of the best "bang for your buck" modifications for any sport compact car or truck. Another great benefit in replacing factory pulleys with underdrive units is reduced weight. Factory units, also referred to as OEM, are generally constructed from steel or cast iron. Pulley systems like those found at NST are constructed of aircraft quality aluminum, making them extremely durable while at the same time much lighter than their steel counterparts. This weight reduction results in less rotating mass on the engine's crankshaft which drastically increases the engine's ability to rev up to speed more quickly."
akirby
"Normally, underdrive pulleys like the units found at NonStopTuning will increase engine output by 8 to 15 horsepower! I seriously doubt you'll see anything close to those numbers. Do they have actual dyno results to back up those claims?
drolds1
I seriously doubt you'll see anything close to those numbers. Do they have actual dyno results to back up those claims? I agree. You might see gains like this on a supercharged Mustang, not a Ford Fusion V6. Not to mention the water pump running slower and the alternator charging at less than what the system was designed for. No telling what issues could arise from this mod.
LFSoccer2k6
I would rather have a lightweight crank pulley that is not underdrive...and yea, all youll get is an increased throttle response and at most 1 HP. Anyway...more info, cost, what product exactly? Is it 1 a set?
BAKNBLU
The pulley test is from a Lightweight Crank Pulley for a 1.5l Toyota Yaris ($118). V6 engines averaged between 7-10 HP. Sorry about the chart: Shows 3 HP gain
umm_me
Id certainly be interested... id probably wait for some feedback/review from a fusion owner since I dont know the company though.

BAKNBLU
That's a lightweight crank pulley, not underdrive pulleys. Underdriven 10%
akirby
Underdriven 10% But the hp increase is due more to the lighter weight on the crankshaft pulley than from the fact that you're underdriving the other components. And all that for 3 hp?

And all that for 3 hp? On a naturally aspirated 1.5 liter engine 120whp. 3HP increase = 2.5%. On a sport that would = 5 hp. which leads me to believe their 7-10HP gains from other similar sized engines on their website.

You can't just extrapolate like that to come up with a figure for a different car. There are too many variables. It's not worth the time, money or possible detrimental effects on the car anyway.
