M Shagwell
Hi everyone, i'm a new owner of a 2008 Ford Fusion V6 SEL, and i'm very happy with my purchase. There was still a few thing that i wanted to improved and the most important one was the noise of my blower motor when i was turning the fan at low and medium speed.I wanted to share this solution with u guys since i found loads of good information here , it sounded like there was debris stuck in the fan wheel or like a baseball card in a bicycle wheel and the frequency was higher the higher the fan speed was. So i went through a few web pages and this forum in particular and found out i wasn't the only one. To make it short, there was 2 solution, either you replace it or you fill it with lubricant. I did the last one i it worked great! Even though I'm not really into mechanics it happened to be be quite easy! Just 3 screws to remove the motor which is underneath the glove box, unplug the fan, remove the black cap with 3 other screws, remove the metal cap with 2 other screws and spray the interior with a good dose of lubricant (i used Jig-a-Loo) . So the other step backward and it was done within 30 min! Here it is, next step, my USB connection problem.

norbs8
Well after about 20min of attempting to get out those 2 screws I got 1 and stripped the other. So this project is on hold till I can run to the hardware store and buy 2 new screws and drill that one out. Question tho what did you spray the lube onto? Are there bearings at the bottom or top of that motor?
FusionDiffusion
I believe the screws are the torx type, so if you were using a phillips head screwdriver you would be needlessly stripping them. Take a close look at the screws you took out.
norbs8
Naw they are a med sized philips and they are fired in with the power of Thor + being upside down in a 90 degree car doesn't help much lol.

I bought a new fan on ebay for 60$ and will change it today. i'll try to post picture to help you guys.

alcohenusa
Had this problem in my 2010 Milan Premier. Was unable to get the noise to go away after trying everything. Found a replacement blower on Amazon.com for $27 delivered and it's a Ford/Motorcraft part. Search for Motorcraft MM-1091 for 2010-2012 Fusion/Milan/MKZ. Simple to change. Remove the 3 mounting screws and the electrical connector. Took me less than 10 minutes! Good luck. 10SBMSport
Mine was already replaced under warranty for similar issues, but I do not have them now. My guess is that a mid-model year change updated the fan. Replacement is likely the only option for a "fix".
ArthurAK
Thank God we don't have to pull the dash for this!

I might replace it or just deal with it.
akirby
I think the fan is only $60 or so and it only takes 15 minutes to replace. And 10 of that is getting into position upside down in the passenger footwell.
peteL
I have a 2009 fusion and have had the same noise. I started to follow the instructions (from this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAXvlcUqkfo which was very helpful), but wow what an awkward position to be in to try to sand or grind down part of the housing. So basically since it is a piece moulded out of perfect round either on the housing or on the fan cage itself. I figured I would look to see if anything could cause either to be misaligned. What I found was some sticky stuff with grit in the fan motor ( the piece that fits onto the housing. that small groove on the outside) , maybe from the manufacturing process some glue or oil or something leaked into that grove (looking down at the removed motor towards the cage). . So I took a screw driver with some cloth and cleaned out the groove. I was thinking this extra stuff was causing the motor housing to sit crooked a liittle bit. Voila no more noise at any speed. so from my opinion it could be either a mis-moulded housing or fan cage , or something causing the fan cage and motor from not sitting properly in the housing. P.S. cleaning that groove was a lot easier than grinding and sanding. This also speaks to why in some cases a new motor assembly will also fix the problem if there is no foreign substance in that groove that mounts into the fan housing under the glovebox.
