What is your Average Miles to Empty after a fuel up?

Actually 93 octane and 87 octane have the exact same energy density. High octane fuel is harder to ignite when the engine is COLD, but once the engine warms up after a minute or two there shouldn't be any problems igniting the fuel.

It may be possible to get slightly more power on premium if the timing isn't being retarded in response to knocking that may occur with 87 octane. Whether this is noticeable or not, I have no idea. But modern engine tuning is very adaptive, so it may well be real. On the new Focus, 87 octane is recommended, but there is also a placard that says "premium fuel will provide improved performance". The reason is most American buyers want to be able to run 87 octane in their car, but the Ford engine tuners can get more power and fuel economy (remember they're under CAFE pressure) on premium. So what they really meant to say is "Your car will run best on premium, but it's okay to use 87 octane if you want".

I was wrong about the energy content - it's the same regardless of octane. Ford does have some vehicles that can take advantage of higher octane and those will state it in the owner's manual. If there's nothing in the OM about getting better performance out of premium then don't bother.

I probably shouldn't have said "harder to ignite" - either one is easy to ignite with a spark plug. But higher octane resists premature detonation that occurs before the spark plug fires which allows the tuner to run higher compression and more ignition timing without causing a knock.

When I had just gotten my 2012 Sport I'd drive it very normal till I broke it in around 8k miles. After the 8k mark I started to have some fun and drive it with a heavy foot so to say. Haha But after around 5k miles of heavy driving I started getting terrible mileage, 13 mpg in the city. I changed my extremely dirty air filter for a K&N reusable drop in filter and I went back up to 18 mpg in the city. I was very pleased with my new filter and it was very simple to change out. And a tip for you guys wanting to get more out of your gas, It works well for me. Right as your driving to the gas station click reset while on the mpg screen on the gauge cluster and try to coast down a hill if you can, you'll read something like 42+ mpg. But you try not to step on the gas at all. That trick works wonders with my car, I've gotten up to 412 to E on a full tank of regular.

I drive 90% city and average out 18.5mpg. My best was 25.2 which was mostly highway but still about 25% city.

I do have a heavy foot but I find if I hyper-mile the Sport I get tired of it and get the itch to modify it or buy a Mustang lmao. Plus I bought the Sport so I can have some fun with it, if I was really worried about MPG's I would have got a hybrid.

Here is my fuelly for more info.

Oh yeah and Sport AWD with the Steeda Power pack. I usually run the 87oct tune but this last tank I put in 91 oct. tune.

You said it best. I have a FWD Sport and don't care about MPG. I like the power and have lead foot tendencies

Exactly, plus the more I drive aggressive the more I like the car haha. I do drive it nice most of the time, but there are those moments where I love to take that off ramp with a little more speed, hit some twisties and keep on it after I pass on the highway.

I average anywhere from 430-480 depending on if A/C is on and if I hit alot of traffic with my 2012 Sport. If I get on it, that will drop significantly - have to drive lightly to get that mileage, but have been able to keep it north of 30mpg on highway

2011 Sport AWD- miles to empty on full tank is usually right around 340-360. I have been calculating mpgs over the last 4 fill ups and we range from 19-22mpg depending on %hwy driving. this was expected when we bought the sport, and me and my wife are both spirited drivers. If we are doing 90% in town we only get about 290 miles on a tank. this is on 14.5 gallons. Ive been filling up when it says 30 miles to empty every time and get 14.5 into the tank. It still gets better mileage than the 06 Explorer we traded in and is a blast to drive! Great car!
