1ofakindgt
Went to shut off my car yesterday and key won't come out of the ignition. Try turning the steering wheel slightyl while removing the key. 2 - A broken shifter release button. Fools the system into thinking the trans is not in park, therefore preventing key removal. Disassemble the shiter knob to get at the release mechanism. Then replace any broken components. Let us know how you make out and good luck. :beerchug:

FusionDiffusion
Wiggle the steering wheel and make sure the shifter button is popping out all the way. If the button doesn't pop out all the way, the car still thinks you have the car in gear and won't release the key.

whitefusoin
Note1: Normal shifter button range of motion is from 1/4 inch (all the way in) to 1/2 inch (out). A click at the ignition switch is heard as it moves out past about 3/8 inch. No click means key will not release. Note2: I took out the chrome ring and all worked fine. Then I put the ring back in and again the shifter button was sticking, preventing key removal. So I took it out and fished around with a small flathead screw-driver. The broken tab was in the channel, pinching the sleeve on the ring. With that broken tab removed, I put the ring back in a 2nd time. All good. The ring's purpose seems to be to keep the shifter button from wabbling.
