Sojourner
Is there a way to fix this dash bulge without removing the passenger air bag? I don't want to risk removing the airbag really. Maybe you can tape it down well enough with the airbag in place?
GrayGhost
I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking for a fix currently. Waited for the Takata recall fix for more than 2 years after receiving my first, hoping it would get fixed then, but as someone else has pointed out here, that issue apparently has nothing to do with the bulging dash. I took my 2008 Fusion to the dealership after they finally got the parts to fix the Takata issue, and got my Fusion back with the same bulging dash. I think I will try grampp12's fix this fall. It's currently in the dog days here in eastern North Carolina and as I have no garage it will be strictly a shadetree job, so I'm going to wait a while for it to cool down outside. I understand basically what grampp12 did, but I can't comprehend how he did it without removing the airbag, unless his wasn't bulging as much as mine. I have a good 1/2" or more bulging at it's highest point and it's not easy to push down.
Btravelen
Just accomplished this last week. Easy enough, remove the air bag (2- 10 mm bolts and electrical connectors) contact cement, a couple clamps and a short piece of 2x4. Easy enough
