Service advancetrac and power steering failure

2014 Ford Fusion SE, 1.5L    Last month AdvanceTrac warning came on and power steering was lost as I was exiting the highway.  Looked under the hood and found the bolts for the power steering motor all broke off.  There is a recall for this issue.   Apparently, this is common in high corrosion environments where salt is used on the roads.   Our local dealer was great and replaced the motor and steering assembly at no cost (due to the recall).    The car ran great for a couple of weeks.  Now I periodically get AdvanceTrac warnings and loose power steering, low battery warning, and hill assist warning.    The warnings will usually go away as I continue driving, and the power steering works most of the time.  Warnings always reset after restarting the vehicle.  I plan to look into this and bring back to the dealership if needed.

I have a 2010 ford fusion. I had it for three months. I bought it from a pre-owned dealership with no warranty. I was driving one day and all of a sudden the car acted like it wanted to cut off and would not go and the right front tire felt like it was spinning. I cut the car off and cut it back on and it took off. By the time I got home the light behind my steering wheel came on saying "advancetrac/ service power steering now." Now it is hard to turn but, it is drivable. I took it to the place I bought it from. Paid to have the whole power steering replaced. It worked the day I got it back. The next day I cut it on take off and same thing happens all over again. I know it is not my power steering. What could it be? I do not have anymore money to take it to get checked. I cannot find anyone who can reset my codes accept Ford and they want $215 to diagnose it first. Even though I told them I replaced the power steering already. They will not reset until I pay for diagnosis. I have no more money. I looked online at some options to do my self such as:

RESET COMPUTER

TAKE POSTITIVE CABLE OFF BATTERY

TAKE FUSE OUT  "ECM"

WAIT THREE MINUTES TO CLEAR COMPUTER MEMORY

I will do this when I get the car home since it just started back this morning. Then I found another thing to do as well that I will also try when getting home from work today.

RESET POWER STEERING? I believe this is for?

TAKE POSITIVE CABLE OFF BATTERY

TAKE FUSE OUT "50A & 10A" power steering (I will check fuses as well for wires etc)

WAIT A FEW MINUTES THEN PUT BACK ON

I am hoping one of these will work. If not, then I am on my last hope. I have three kids and need this car. I have no second car and broke. I hate the powersteering replacement did not work.

Is there anything else that I can do that might work besides resetting computer on car and fuses for power steering?

Also, I will say before this happened, last week my  "change oil" came on behind the steering wheel. Since the day I bought it three months ago, It has always said "tire sensor fault." Tires are all good and everything looks good from what I can see. I wanted to change my oil but, the next day the steering wheel locked up. I could not take it to someone for them to change if they cannot turn the steering wheel to get it on the rails to change? Could this have anything to do with it? Maybe, the computer is thrown off and does need a good reset?

Please help! Any advice is appreciated!

Love,

mother of three

Same problem on my 2010 Fusion v6 SEL. I've had the service Advancetrac light come on a few times over the past few months as well but dealer couldn't find anything wrong. Now when I got back in my car at work there's no power steering and the light is on Service Power Steering now. Tried everything including disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and I still have no power steering. I'm taking it to the dealer Monday. The dealer tells me they have not heard of this issue before which I find hard to believe giving all the post online I've found. Now I'm at 71000 highway driven mikes and they are telling me its out if warranty.

What did you find out about this? My car is the same exact as yours. Last week my car just stopped and would not go. It felt like front tire spinning. Cut it off and back on and worked fine. When took it home, Power steering service now/advancetrac came on. took it to the person who I bought it from. Paid $500 to replace power steering. Next day it locked up again. Need help.

Dealer found that the wires from the new power steering motor were not secured properly when the recall service was performed.  The wires contacted the exhaust, damaging the insulation, and causing the Advance Trac warning and power steering to cut out intermittently.

New wires were installed and secured.  Now it works well.

This issue happened to me also, I have a 2010 fusion awd v6, the advancetrac/power steering warning came on while driving home today, but it still worked. When i turned her off and back on.. the power steering wouldn't work and a diffrent warning poped up saying "Service power steering Now". There is no sign of any fluid leak ,the fuses are all ok and the battery is aswell. Tried turning it on and off multiple times, drove around a little.....Still no power steering!!

Bringing her to the ford dealer tomorrow.

Find anything out on this?? Mine did this last week. Had the whole power steering redone. $800 total from my dealership. Sure enough next day, it done it again. No steering. I replaced it. It should work. It has to be something else. I cannot keep taking it back and getting him to fix every single thing until finally fixes it.

Does need an alignment bad and oil change...Can that throw my computer off? I have a 2010 ford fusion sel.

I have a 2010 Fusion 2.5l which yesterday began showing these same symptoms of Service Power Steering and Check Advancetrac, and I lost power steering.  These appeared after I drove about 0.5 miles to nearby Circle K to put air in my nearly flat tire, which has a leak I've been needing to get fixed.  Reading the above discussion about tire tread depth and its possible impact on this power steering issue due to increased drag, I wonder if my low-pressure tire did the same thing and triggered this issue?  Restarting the car did not resolve it, and I am now starting the diagnosis process and hope to repair it myself, as I am very short on cash.

Did anyone with low-tread tires or other potential causes resolve the issue, and if so, what fixed it, please?

Thanks in advance for the great help!

Hi Doug. If the low tire pressure causing a different tire circumference was the cause of your issue "Check Advancetrac" issue, the warning light should go away after you repair/replace the tire and drive a few cycles. The "Service Power Steering" warning light and loss of power steering issues are a bit more confounding, as they would be less directly linked to the low tire pressure.

You can also try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so to clear the error.

If that does not work, then a service visit will probably be necessary.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
