$88 to have a pro install HIDs, worth it?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here had HIDs installed by a "pro"? Now that my tint is done I am going to order HIDs soon and called my local Car Electronics Installer and they said $88 to install my supplied parts. They offer some HIDs as well but only in 8k, I want 5k.

So I guess my question is, is paying $88 worth it? Sounds like a decent deal to me.

Thanks, that's what I am trying to decide. It's been so hot lately that I haven't wanted to anything to my car. It's been in the high 90's and low 100's for weeks, being a Michigander I am NOT used to that kind of heat for so long.

I have a garage but it's not climate controlled. It's supposed to cool down a bit so I may go for it myself.

Hi Pyzik. :D That is a bit less than 1 hour labor at current rates (according to region, of course). So yes, if they do the job correctly it seems fair.

So as Chingon stated, it comes down to what your time is worth and what your own skill level is.

The only points I would add is this - All aftermarket HID kits are illegal for on-road use, no exceptions. And in the vast majority of cases, they are cobbled together from cheap overseas parts. So buyer beware.

Let us know how you make out and good luck. :beerchug:

Hell no that is not worth it. I took off my bumper, installed the PNP kit, and put bumper back on in 30-40 min and this what the first time I took the bumper off the Fusion.

Yesterday, I did a retrofit and installed Evox-r projectors. I had to cut the housings and such and reseal them and did this all in 5-6 hours (tyring to just put it in perspective).

Thanks for the info, bbf2530.

LFsoccer2k6, I have never taken the bumper off anything. About the most I have ever done to a car is change the front brake pads, fuel filter, plugs... That kind of stuff.

Still trying to research which kit I want to buy anyway so I am not in a rush. Thinking of ordering from Xenon Expert.

Got my headlights, fog lights, and LED switchbacks installed today. Before leaving, the DRL's were flickering. After the guy installed warning cancellors and the problem was solved. I have regular DRL on and full HID when it gets dark. BTW, the install for the full package?? $50-bucks! Here's the finished product. The look kicks ass!!

The 'greenish' look around the fogs are due to the angle I shot the pic.....
