ctrcbob Posted March 9, 2007 Share Posted March 9, 2007 While at my local Ford Dealer today, I saw what I at first thought were two Shelby GT-500's, come in. Both Black with Silver Stripes. While looking at them closer, I saw that they were in fact different from each other. (I have a friend with a Red GT-500 so I know the looks). First I saw that the wheels were different. Then I saw that the one with the black wheels said Shelby GT. The other said Shelby GT-500. This is the first one I've seen. Dealer said that both of them were sold. (No I'm not looking at buying <grin>). I guess dealers are starting to get these GT's in as they cost a lot less than the GT-500 and Hertz will not be selling off their Shelby GT-H rentals anytime soon. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

robertlane Posted March 10, 2007 Share Posted March 10, 2007 The Shelby GT's have the 4.6L engine while the GT500s use the 5.4L. The GT-H "Hertz" models are now being phased out and many are for sale. I would guess that by mid-2007, Hertz will have sold all of them off. The first one sold for just a hair over $70K and the other three went in the mid to upper 60s. And these were rustbelt sourced ones in the sunbelt too. ctrcbob Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share Posted March 13, 2007 On the new ones, it is my understanding that the only difference between the GT-H and the GT is that with the GT, you can lock out the Traction Control, and you can't do that with the GT-H. This is to keep renters from doing burnouts. If anyone looks at the GT, note how "tacky looking" that phony hood scoop is. It really looks like an afterthought and note that it is rivited on. The manual shift know also looks tacky. (what I saw was a manual). Also the GT is only a tenth of a second faster in the quarter than the Mustang-GT, and yet, it lists for $9000 more. Thats a lot of money for an extra 20hp. Its also my understanding that that extra hp comes from the cold air intake. If I were in the market for a "Mustang", (which I'm not), I'd go with the Mustang-GT, not the Shelby-GT 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dyoct Posted March 16, 2007 Share Posted March 16, 2007 Not body rust, but yes, undercarriage. I remember when I lowered my first SHO in January of 01. It didn't even spend a full winter in Michigan but the effects were there. The strut casings and springs started to develop some surface rust. My other 90 is a Georgia sourced car. Night and day difference. I'm never buying a northern used car ever again. As for the differences between the GT-H and GT, the big difference is rarity. The GT-H is under 1,000 units IIRC. The GT will be around 6,000 units. The GT-H is only auto and has the yellow stripes. GT is black or white with silver stripes, manual or auto choice and has an autographed dash plaque. Don't know if the GT-Hs have the plaque or not. And I agree, that shift knob is fugly. Looks like a small bowling ball or something on there.
