Fusionpursuit
I just had my Magnaflow exhaust installed, everything went well, but the Muffler Shop had to heat the hangar on the left to bend it down more since he said it was too close (almost touching) , but now since the adjusting was done, the passenger side one had to end up being 1/4" on the left side from the diffuser. but they now look even from top to bottom. I was wondering if 1/2" might be tolerable. I took a 45 minute high speed highway drive and was still able to touch the muffler tips for a few seconds till I could feel the heat transferring to my finger. but they do not burn to the touch. I wondered if the melting would only be an issue with tips that are too far back under the car where the exhaust gas is the hottest point and the Magnaflow tips have some insulation? My tips stick out 2 inches or so past the diffuser and are even. The exhaust shop told me to still keep an eye on it, otherwise he said they will have to adjust and modify the Y piping to move the pax side exhaust a little bit more to the right. I really am happy with the low growl sound and it has no drone at all, the exhaust shop was impressed, they are a certified flowmaster/magnaflow place and this was the first time they tried the 3.0L catback install on a Fusion (yes I have the 3.0L version due to mine being a FWD 3.5 not having the AWD dual hangar set up. any thoughts? FusionDiffusion
Exhaust tips don't usually get too hot unless they're really small or you're doing a lot of racing. The spacing is more so the flexible exhaust doesn't hit the valance going over bumps. A half inch should be enough clearance.
Fusionpursuit
The shop shaked the exhaust and i also tried to and it never was able to touch the valance, so I guess it will be fine for now, the valance for a sport is only $60 if it were to get messed up.
BlackBetty
I wouldn't be too concerned but something to keep an eye on. I wouldn't blame you to take it back either and get those few inches added. I love the way duratecs sound. I had a 3.0L in my old Cougar and it sounded awesome. I had a set of shorty headers, aftermarket Y-pipe and the main cat removed with a dynomax resonator and muffler with 2.5" piping.
MonoxideChild
yea, i wouldnt worry about it. my mufflers are pressed up against the bumper, and have been like that since they were installed back in 2007. and ive done 14 hour straight road trips, and they havent done any damage to the bumper cover or paint.
Fusionpursuit
So far so good and I moved it a bit more on hangar and it gave a little more clearance, but otherwise no hint of heat or carbon build up. my trip computer is now reading 1.5 to 2 mpg more average on my commute since the install
Fusionpursuit
I bit the bullet and went back to the exhaust shop and had them center it more and now they look great and the did the adjustment for no charge. He heated the welds on the y pipe and he pulled the pipe out more. Also had to do same for left side to even it again. The exhaust now all even and centered in each opening, only slight issue is the exhaust now angle out a little but it kind of gives it a sporty effect
