Hi there..I'm new to this forum..just got my 2007 2.3 I-4 on Friday..i love the car but i have one question. Has anyone noticed that when you first start the car and the engine comes to life..it kind of shakes the whole car..almost like the engine is moving in the engine compartment?

All cars create a rumble when you start them. It's physics.

You're creating an explosion within a confined space which then torques the piston heads in various directions. What do you think's going to happen?

I think you're being nit-picky. Besides... get through the 2,000 mile break in period before you start imagining gremlins.

I don't want to sound rude but man..i'm not imagining anything..i have been working on cars all my adult life and know when something isn't right...i additionally own two other vehicles and a motorcycle and none of them do what i'm am trying to explain. I actually went to a Ford dealership today and they said there is a problem but are not sure what it is yet....

Four Cylinder Engines "shake". Just the nature of the beast. Not enough cylinders to smoothen out each power impulse.

Actually, thats not true. With todays engine management, liquid filled mounts, and highly accurate internal balancing 4cyl motors run quite smoothly. If you are having a vibration issue after start up up you need to have have the car looked at.

And yes, I own a Fusion 2.3 and mine purrs....

Hey everyone..i took it upon myself to look at the car because i for one hate going to the dealership and have always worked on my own cars..so anyway..what it was was a bit of moisture getting into the coil pack connection since at night its cold and daytime is warm..condensation was forming..dried it up well and added a bit of dielectric grease..alls well.

Ran into this problem when mine was quite new. Took it to the dealer that evening and it was running fine by the time I got it there. Snow blew up on top of the valve cover and melted when the engine warmed up and it started miss-firing. They cleaned it up and it hasn't happened since. The valve cover where the coil packs are located is just like a trough, if water gets in there, it can't drain, it has to evaporate. Poor design if you ask me.

I know this is an old topic, but my 2008 SE with 52000 KM starts to shake even when the engine warmed up. The shake happens when I put it into "D" or "R" but not "P" or "N", the shake is not too much but definitely not comfortable.

I have went to dealership, and they said if computer doesn't read a code, they can't do anything.

My car is still under warranty, I am wondering what should I do?

Hi hpad. :D If there is an actual problem, a code will not always be created or stored. So the Dealership must do more troubleshooting than simply read codes.

That being said, if your current Dealership will not do more, you have two main choices: First, you can try another Dealership.

Second, you can follow the instructions printed in the Warranty Guide that relate to issues such as this. You were given the Warranty Guide when you purchased the vehicle. Among other information, it lists procedures to follow when you are not happy with the service your Dealership has provided. It is up to you to read and follow those guidelines to get this issue bumped up to the next level.. No one at the Dealership is going to tell you how to register a complaint to Ford about their possibly poor service.

Let us know how you make out.

Good luck. :beerchug:

I have a 2010 I-4 Fusion that does the exact same thing. The first time I took it to the dealer, I got the same response - "there are no codes, so we cannot do anything about it." They also told me that all 4 cylinders will have some vibration, and I agree...to a point. As others have pointed out here, there should be little to no vibrations on a MY2010 (even a 4 cylinder) with newer designs of motor mounts, engine balancing, etc. I am not expecting to not feel any vibration when the car is running; that is unreasonable. However, when the car is in gear and idling, the vibration I feel in the seat, brake pedal, and steering wheel is severe enough that I usually shift to neutral when sitting at a stop light.

I plan to bring this to the attention of the dealer (again) at the next service (1500 miles away). If others have experienced this same problem, I would appreciate any information that I can relay to my dealer.

Thanks! :shift:

I have a 2010 I4 S manual 6spd and I think it idles rough. I only have 6000 miles on it and when its in neutral at idle the exhaust sounds like its missing. If you stand at the rear of the car you can hear and feel the exhaust pulsing as well.

Did you ever get any resolution to this? I'm looking at buying a 2010 I4 and was noticing this same issue of "excessive" vibration when stopped at a light. The car has all of the options I wanted, so I was hopeful that there is a fix for this problem.
