FuzzyOne Posted November 12, 2023 Share Posted November 12, 2023 Dear Fellow Fusion owners: I realize this discussion is centered around the oil pan drain plug washer.... but I would like to make mention of an issue I've run into twice now with the oil pan drain plug on my 2010 4cyl Fusion. It seemed that the steel plug became bonded to the aluminum pan bung. I suspect the plastic O-Ring/washer was intended to provide separation between the dissimilar metals from bonding via the production of a corrosive / galvanic reaction. In my case, the reaction wasn't at the plug head, but at the plug threads. I damaged the head of the plug both times to the point of needing to replace the plug. The last time I changed the engine oil I installed Teflon tape on the threads of the new replacement oil pan drain plug. This is much easier than chewing off the plug head and replacing it again at a future oil change. Your Mileage May Vary...... ? Happy Motoring All!! jpohlman Posted January 18 Share Posted January 18 Depends on the year. The replacement drain plug that was factory OEM from 2011 forward has an integrated rubber washer. Grampy Posted February 18 Share Posted February 18 (edited) Old thread BUT: My fleet is 4 cars, 2 trucks, and 2 motorcycles. I do 99% of all maintenance myself and 100% of the oil changes.
