Trying to add a factory navigation to my 2011 Sport. Is it possible?

I have been wanting to add a factory Ford navigation to my 2011 Sport. I asked the parts department at my dealership and they told me that 2010 was the last year they did it. Is this true? He said there was alot changed behind the dash and there was no way to do it. He was just relaying the message from his supplier. I walked over to the 2012 Fusion Hybrid on the showroom floor and looky there it had navigation in it... Did they stop navigation only in the Sport model? I dont want aftermarket...i dont wanna lose the SYNC system and all the control features.

You can't get navigation unless you have MyFordTouch - it's one unit with optional software now. Does your sport have MFT?

If it didn't come from the factory with Nav you can't add it right now - it's that simple. If Ford decides to offer Nav as an aftermarket add-on for MFT then it will be possible but they haven't indicated if or when they'll do that.

My 2011 has Factory NAV and I do not have MFT, they did not bother to add My Ford Touch to the 2011 or 2012 Fusions, it only came out in the 2011 Edge and the Focus as well as newer Fords, but the current Fusions, its the same V3 Sync Nav system.

The Hybrid does kinda look as if it has MFT cause of its dash, but really same old Sync V3 Nav system with extra Hybrid Distribution screen added in the screen selection. so no MFT on the 2010-2012

Pst, Allen, you're on the Fusion forum, not the Edge forum.

To the OP, the dealer doesn't really know what they are talking about, but that being said, it is not a simple job to just plug in a factory Nav system into a 2011 Fusion. The wiring will have to be custom made and many different modules have to have their software reconfigured to make it work.

Do what you want, but I intentionally did not buy factory navigation when I bought my 2010 Sport new.

$1800 for nav is awful pricy for what you get.

I tend to keep my cars for a long time. At least 10 years. All of the factories (not just Ford) are well know for how poorly they support factory nav systems. One thing I don't want to contend with is a five or six year old car with nav problems and inadequate support. $300.00 for map updates when they get around to it and hours to load them. What do you stick in that hole in the dash when it no longer works and you can't find support.

I travel for work nearly every week, flying to different places and renting a car. I have a high level Garmin with lifetime maps and lifetime traffic. I update the maps every three months. I move it from car to car. I bought an extra cable and windshield mount to leave on the Sport to make it super easy to plug it in and go when I have assignments within driving distance. I have it mounted on the lower left side of the dash (California law requires it to be in one of the corners if dash mounted). When it finally gives up the ghost it will cost a fraction of what a factory nav unit would cost and there is no installation cost.

Sometimes the rental cars include nav, either factory or rental company installed. The Ford unit is not nearly as intuitive to use as some of the others. The Explorer I had recently with My Ford Touch was an absolute disaster. It reminded me of how much I dislike BMW's I-Drive.

I did get every other option on my Sport, and enjoy them all, even the Mazda Speed 6 brakes I added.

To each his own, but until the factories get their factory nav systems better sorted out they are not for me.
