Found Difference on Engine of MKZ AWD vs FWD

Visited a L-M Dealer today for my first complimentary oil change (see thread in another forum). While there, I found a difference on MKZ AWD vs FWD.

My owners manual shows that there is a cooling system vent located next to the air intake tube. This vent is used to vent out air trapped in the cooling system when adding coolant.

My AWD does not have this vent. (at least I can't find it). Looked at a FWD, and there it was, right where the owners manual says it is located. Later I looked at an AWD in the showroom, and it was exactly like mine. No vent.

Note this is for the MKZ. Don't know about the Fusion or Milan.

You could call the Ford Customer Service hotline or ask the service department manager (he's typically clueless though). If you call Ford make sure you request a ticket number and a call back. In order to get a call back you might have to sound desparate for the information.

My suspicion is that because AWD has difference mechanical elements added to the car, that things move from one set up to the next. There probably still is a vent... it's just not in the same place possibly because of the additional powertrain components taking up space.

Now that was funny...you mean that customer service hotline that seems to be based out of India? What a freakin' joke. :banvictory:

I didn't get that impression when I called. Lady I spoke to was quite midwestern, in fact. Of course, I called the Mercury customer service number, which is different (1-800-521-4140). Pretty cool that Mercury has its own customer service line, huh?

Ford U.S. - 1-800-392-3673

Ford Canada - 1-800-565-3673
