chrisdh79
There's 2 recalls for the 13 Fusion 1.6 version. You can check to see if your car has any recalls by going to http://www.etis.ford...cleSelection.do then typing in your VIN on the vehicles tab. Outstanding Field Service Actions 12C27 - HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT 12S41 - RISK OF OVERHEATING THAT MAY RESULT IN ENGINE FIRES Also there's a new update for the MYFORD TOUCH program. LittleJaeger75
This makes me wonder if I made the right purchase. What’s next?
Jo7hs2
Recalls are pretty common during the first model year after a new platform introduction, redesign, or major refresh. That's the price you pay for being an "early adopter." Edited December 2, 2012 by Jo7hs2
JoeyToronto
It's a Ford.
fistfulladirt
I went to the Ford site and typed in my vin. Checked and double-checked. It lists my 2013 Fusion as a Ford Transit connect 2002- Just peachy.

shelkol
The dealer called me yesterday - they want the car back. Will give me a rental until it is fixed. They don't know how long it will take
coleman567
Any chance Ford will be paying my car note now that I am without my brand new car?
akirby
If these vehicles are held for more than a couple of weeks I am almost positive you'll see some type of compensation from Ford.
oldgeezer
We had order our new 2013 1.6 Ecoboost Fusion in mid-August and have been following it's slow progress since then. Just found out about the 12S41 Recall due to overheating concerns and today the dealer told us that the car had been re-routed to the Ford Flatrock Assembly Plant in Michigan and I assume this is where Ford plans to address the 'fix' for the engine. The dealer has been more than cooperative throughout the whole process and this is not a good situation for anyone concerned, especially Ford. If it is a matter of the engine soft plugs coming loose and spraying coolant on the turbocharger they need to find a softplug & sealant that hold, and may have to develop a shield to prevent the coolant from reaching the turbocharger. At first I thought that ethylene glycol would not burn but found it will at 748 degrees F. Don't know what mixing water to the ethylene glycol does to the ignition point or if the anti-freeze now used in Ford cars even contains ethylene glycol. Am sure the temperature of the turbocharger does run over 748 degrees at times as I have seen turbochargers on my farm equipment run red hot (never had any trouble with any of them either). Anyway we wait, not happy about it, but at least Ford is doing their best to address a bad situation and has owned up to the problem.
ctrcbob
Darn British made 1.6T engines <grin> So far, no problems with the 2.0T Spanish made engines. <ha>
alfredfife
Does anyone know what the recall replacement will be for the 2013 fusion headlight assembly? Will they use an HID replacement or something inferior again??
akirby
The plastic housing was defective. It's been corrected by the supplier. It's the same headlamps.
2011 redmerc
And my 2013 Fusion SE 2.5 that I took delivery of on Oct.22. runs merrily along. Kinda glad now that I didn't get the 1.6 Eco boost. At 2250 miles I am still very happy with my new Ford. No problems!

Do you have a lead foot and not concerned with the last of power or is everything just dandy?
chrisdh79
Looks like Ford found the fix to the overheating issue. I will wait till next week to get my car updated. I dont want to drive around in a rental for a week+. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/ford-produces-fix-in-voluntary-safety-recall-of-2013-escapes-2013-fusions-with-16-liter-engines-2012-12-10 The headlamp replacement is for the issue with the assembly overheating causing the bulbs to dim. 2011 redmerc
GammaRae..... The base 2.5L drives pretty decent for what it is. It seems to accelerate about the same as my 2011 Milan 2.5L did. It keeps up with traffic with no problem. I would have gotten a 1.6L but the one I wanted didn't arrive in time so I took the Bordeaux Reserve Red SE 2.5L they had on the lot. The day after I got it I left on a 3 day 1850 round trip to Indiana so the engine was broken in at 70-75 mph in one day of driving. It burned 3/4 of a quart of oil in the first 1000 miles and none since. Using the on board computer the average mpg was 12.3 at 20 miles and worked its way up to 28.9 mpg average at 1850 miles. I figure another 3-4000 miles and she will be fully broken in. I think it will get the 34 mpg highway it is rated at pretty easy. I still haven't checked the mpg using actual miles driven & gas used but I think it will do OK. I don't know yet what city mpg it will get but my 2011 Milan 2.5L got 24 mpg. The car is just fabulous. At 75 mph it is as quiet as a tomb. Great ride & handling, very comfortable and I'm 6'1" and the head room w/sunroof is about 3-4 inches. Fit and finish is first rate. Everybody loves the looks inside and out. I am very satisfied with it. I will say one negative against it.... the clock runs slooow and has to be reset every 10-14 days. And the recall 12C27 has to do with a coating applied on the low beam headlight assembly that MAYBE didn't cure right and MIGHT yellow with age. To me no big deal.

Good to know the 2.5L still comes in at a great option for a lot of drivers. It was the only engine I had driven of the previous generations and was quite surprised as what it could actually do. Wasn't expecting that. In the end, I opted for the Passat TDI because I wasn't getting any warm fuzzy help from Ford or the dealer, and am very happy with how things turned out. I've only really commuted with it, still on the first tank and have an average MPG of 42 on it, so far (if I do it right, I'm able to get about 38 city at times). Still 300+ miles of range left on it (OD is sitting at 430+). Going to be interesting to see what she ends up getting once broken in.
mmickk
Man am I glad to hear they have a fix (hopefully). My dealer supplied me a new F-150 for this past week. While it is a very nice truck it isnt what I wanted. I have had my Fusion for a month and so far I like it very much. I'm very satisfied with the fit an finnish. All the seams are even and the leather is well done. I drove it for a week after learning of the recall. I wasnt seeing any overheating issues but my dealer called so figured that playing it safe was the better course. Does anyone know under what conditions they were seeing the problem?
shelkol
Just got off the phone with both the dealer and the customer line. Yes, Ford has delivered instructions on how to fix the car for the recall. What they failed to say is that a 'special tool' is required which won't be delivered until the end of the week. The dealer said it should be ready right after Christmas! At that point Ford will have had my car longer than I have! So I called the customer support line and moaned and groaned. Currently Ford is only compensating the owners by providing a rental car. I commented on how the rental was no where near as nice as the car I just paid $29K for. I said I wanted an extended warranty! They added my request to the data base ( I wonder if that is the round can on the floor)
ffeingol
Should be interesting as you are getting a different story that I got. I called this morning to check on mine. Service person said they got the fix on Sat. and I should be able to pick up the car later today. She said the fix takes about 2.5 hours and then Ford instructed them to fill the car and wash / clean it. I should know more this afternoon if/when they call me to come and get it.

chrisdh79
Let us know if you see anything different. I'm curious if the headlamp replacement will improve the night time output. I hate halogens, and I can't even replace the bulbs myself because the way the assembly is installed. Can't figure out how to get the dam things out.
falcon 12
Picked up our car at 4:00 pm today. Fix was downloaded and the headlamps were replaced. They also washed it and filled the tank (I dropped it off with less then a 1/4 tank). Happy to be back driving it again. Take care....Ed
