sto620
Just replaced the OEM battery on my 2010 SE 4 cylinder with a Diehard. It came with a vent plug and elbow connector. However, I don't see a vent tube in the engine compartment. Is it necessary to use the vent connector or can I do without it? Thanks in advance for the advice.
FusionDiffusion
Is your new battery an AGM type?
Big Jim
Most batteries mounted under the hood simply vent through the caps and under the hood. When batteries are mounted in the trunk (Volvo and others) additional venting is needed to keep the fumes from accumulating (hydrogen gas). Often, aftermarket batteries are made for multiple applications, underhood or trunk.

MonoxideChild
There are alot of cars with trunk mounted batteries factory. So if that battery you bought happens to fit one of those cars, it would need to include that vent to be applicable for that application also. I know the two BMW's ive owned have had the batteries in the trunk from the factory like this.
