sporanox
I found a hole in one of my cooler lines, the line runs down by the driver side front tire. I have an I4 with a manual 5 speed trans. Looks likes this is a dealer only part. My question is if I cut out the damaged area of the hose, flare the metal line and re-attach with rubber hose and clamps - will this work as a long tern solution? Or is this a high pressure line and my solution will not work and I need to suck it up and pay the dealer too much money for the part. Attached picture shows the hose in question. Thanks,
FusionDiffusion
Where does the end of it hook up? Is it the clutch hydraulic line?
sporanox
Where does the end of it hook up? Is it the clutch hydraulic line? I think it is the clucth hydraulic line since it is right under the floorboard where the clucth pedal is located
FusionDiffusion
Yeah, rubber hose and clamps arent going to work. Replace the line and bleed the slave cylinder.

The one end that connect to the clucth is high pressure hose with a clamp, thats is why I wonder.
sporanox
I am putting gear oil as suggested in the manual trans, but the fluid that leaked out of the cooler line looks red like automatic transmission fluid. Any idea or am I missing something?
FusionDiffusion
Clutch uses brake fluid (shares the reservoir), which can may range from being almost colorless to being a dark amber color (look at the fluid in the reservoir). The two things that use ATF (red oil) are the automatic transmission and the power steering. Since you have a manual transmission with gear oil (which will look like regular engine oil, just thicker), if the fluid is actually red it would have to be power steering fluid. Did the line go to the power steering rack or does it attach to something on the firewall? Why don't you check the levels of all your fluids just to be safe. FYI, the MT doesn't have any cooling lines. Edited January 10, 2013 by FusionDiffusion

MonoxideChild
Any way you can get a better picture? The manual trans doesnt have any cooler, only the automatic cars have that. It could be your clutch fluid line but its hard to tell from the one picture. So im thinking your line your having issues with is something other then a trans cooler line. If you can get a better shot, I can probably help you figure out what it is and the correct name for it.
