ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)

Recommended Posts

I have the fusion titanium with the driver assist package and the ACC. I am very satisfied with it so far, although there is definitely some room for improvement.

A few things i like about it:

- takes most of the stress out of congested driving

-easy to engage/disengage

-displays that is sees the car infront of you

A few things i dislike:

-brakes and accellerates rapidly

-disengages around 10 mph (wish it had the queue assist feature like the volvos)

Anyone elses like/dislikes? Questions?

I like to say going from a car that has this to back to a car that doesnt is like going from a smartphone back to a flip phone. Having said that, It works best in environments without stoplights and over 40 mph but as you start to use it more often, it works with you to optimize your trip. This option is about 1k (only offered with titanium) but I added this feature to a bmw I priced out and it was three times as much and similar in other luxury brands.

A few questions for you as I am considering adding this option to my vehicle as well. My dealer told me the ACC disengages at 40mph, and you mentioned here it disengages at 10mph. I have read online elsewhere that the ACC will disengage at 20mph? Can anyone verify the correct speed at which this drops off?

I am also curious if ACC supports slower speeds such as 10-20mph, what is the closest distance at which you can set the car to trail the next? I have heard in other forum posts that there were complaints that the closest set distance was still quite far from the lead vehicle.

Any insight on these questions would help me make a decision whether the system was worth the extra cost. Thanks in advance!

All your questions are answered in your owner's manual, so I suggest you read it starting on page 186. The minimum speed is 12 MPH and the gap is based on time (e.g. 1.5 second following distance), so the gap will change with vehicle speed. The minimum gap is 1 second, which is as close as you should ever be for safety reasons. People that think 1 second is too far are too used to their own bad driving (tailgating) habits.

Thanks FD this clears some things up for me. I have an order in and deposit down but have not yet collected the car so no owners manual to read. Dealer hasn't been helpful with some questions and providing false info. That's why I came here looking for answers from current owners. Thanks again.

Here's a link where you can read the manual. Click on the "Owner Guides" in the left column and then click on the vehicle you want.

Solid post - thanks for this I am checking it out now. I learned more in 10 minutes on this forum than 3 hours at the dealership.

One thing that isn't in the owner's manual is that you have to be going more than 25mph to set the cruise control. So even though it will slow you down to 12mph, you have to have been going at least 25mph to have it on. Also you can't set the cruise speed at anything less than 25mph.

The dealer was mixing up ACC with LKA, the lane keep system will only work above 40mph (but will keep working until you slow down to about 35mph I think).

Thank you for this as well. He likely did mix up the features - he did tell me he was not fond of cruise control in general so it's possible he didn't really even test it out.

What is the general opinion otherwise of the ACC - are you guys utilizing it much? There aren't many video's out there pertaining to the 2013 Ford Fusion ACC in action so I didn't know if the rapid acceleration/deceleration was a major nuisance or a rare occurrence.

I have already received a VIN from my dealer and a build date of Feb 4th so I am not sure if I can get the feature added on at this point - I called the Dealer and he said he would let me know.

If the VIN has been assigned to the car, you cannot add or delete options or change colors.

I kind of figured this although since the dealer provided me with the wrong information that led to my nixxing of the the option I was hoping I could get this changed without prolonging the order - especially if the car wasn't even built yet. From what he told me this was no good under 40mph which to me would be true if that were the case, but 12mph is a whole different ballpark. I guess I'll find out when he calls me back and at that point it is what it is.

Good post. I am considering the Fusion, Mazda 6 & Sonata. All have ACC and the Sonata has a stop and go one. What do you guys recommend? Thanks. I appreciate your help.

You're posting on the Ford Fusion Forum asking which car we would buy?
