FusionDiffusion
Since your car is out of warranty, if your door handle breaks you have to buy a new one yourself or pay to have it fixed. Not sure why you expect Ford to cover this for you. Yes, it's an inconvenience, but so is almost every car problem. The safety aspect of this is quite debatable since you have three other doors and four windows to escape from. If you're that concerned about safety, you should have an emergency hammer in you car.
akirby
Everybody wants something for free. You can buy the part for $60 or less (I think that's what it was) and replace it yourself in about 10 minutes. You don't even have to remove the door panel all the way, just the top.
thefoeyouknow
A pick, a T20 torx, and an 8mm. 3 tools, 5 minutes, part cost $50. I'm new here, and I don't know you, but I'm the guy at the dealer who does electrical/HVAC/trim, and I say you had 3 years or 36,000 miles where Ford owed you ANYTHING. On your facebook page you decry that a 6 year old car shouldn't have a broken interior door handle, I'm here to tell you that if it lasted 6 years it doesn't owe you anything. Parts break, man up and fix your car.
akirby
Not to mention link bombing the other Ford posts. Not cool. If you wanted extended warranty coverage you could have purchased it. If you chose not to purchase it then you pay for repairs. Period.
hermans
He's now complaining that his other door has also broken. That makes two?
thefoeyouknow
I replace at least 1 of these a week, mostly for peeling chrome, otherwise, part of the mechanism gets broken, and usually you can't lock the door, rarely does one become completely inop. Regardless, out of warranty, out of luck. It's not like we're talking about major repairs here.
acdii
$35 and 15 minutes to replace in my driveway(dropped a screw or it would have been 8 minutes). Its cheap plastic with a spring pressing against it, its gonna break at some point in its life.
SteveV
I'm the guy at the dealer who does electrical/HVAC/trim, I don't mean to hijack the thread. I wanted to see if you could help me since you work at a dealer and might have access to various service manuals. I'm looking to change out my 2011 Sport chrome exterior window sill trim with the basic black ones from a Fusion S model. It's part number 1 in the link below, and the Ford online parts catalog describes it as "belt w/strip" under the Front Door - Exterior Trim parts category. Is there instructions available on how to swap out this part? I'd like to swap on these trim pieces on both the front and rear doors. https://www.partswebsite.com/stores/partsimages/partsJ/JP10515.gif I would have sent you a message through your profile but I don't have enough posts yet according to the website.
thefoeyouknow
There's a single t20 screw by the rear doorjamb on the inside if I remember. Make sure to do it with the window down.
SteveV
^thanks, I did see the torx screws on the inside of both the front and rear doors. I removed the screws but the sill pieces didn't budge. However, I didn't have the windows down like you suggest, maybe that's the trick? I'll try it again tonight. edit: tried it again with the windows down and those exterior sill pieces still didn't budge. I'll try stopping by a body shop I know and see if he can help me. Otherwise I guess I'll just tape them off and paint them black like other forum members here. Edited February 20, 2013 by SteveV
akirby
It takes quite a bit of force to dislodge the plastic connectors. Don't forget the screw holding the door handle backer plate on.
