JACSUPRA1124
First time here on this forum, but seriously need help. I have a 2010 ford fusion 2.5l se and out of no where the advance trac light came on and the power steering service now also. so now the power steering is gone and really stiff, i cant figure out the proble, the last thing i want to do is spend lots money on a service charge by the dealer and then more to actually do something. and to top it all off my cv joint started to pop when only turning right. any help would be very helpful.
FusionDiffusion
Have the battery tested. If the battery is good and your charging system voltage is normal, then the usual cause is a bad power steering rack. Unfortunately it's not a cheap repair. JACSUPRA1124
The battery is brand new. And I did replace the steering rack. And again the power steering went out. I Dont want to continue going to the dealer if they are just going to charge me ever time just to look at it. Would the faulty CV joint effect the power steering? And also didn't notice until today 2 ball joints have ripped open the ones close to the wheels that are connected to the control arm.
FusionDiffusion
If you have something broken that increases the steering force, then yes it might affect the power steering module causing it to draw too much power. To find out, you can jack the front wheels off the ground and then try turning the wheel by hand. It should be fairly easy to turn it. You should also be able to turn the wheels by grabbing the tires at 3 and 9 o'clock and pushing/pulling them. If you want something simple to check, you can look at the fuses. Power steering comes from fuses #1 and #2 (50A) under the hood and #42 (10A) under the dash. JACSUPRA1124
Did all that thanks but fuses are fine. :/. I had to buy all three parts the CV joint and both control arms on the driver side gonna put those on and let's see if that changes anything.
SCORPION6
I had a similar case around 6 months ago in my 2,5, 2011 a CEL (Check Engine Light) and appeared the messagge Repair the Advanced Track and Assit Dirección Power Fail. That put the steering wheel really hard to turn. Took to the dealer, apparently some problem with the computer if the car, I suppouse they disconnected the battery to erase the codes but 2 days after appear the same. Checking and checking they decided to replace the "Cremalleras" in Spanish, is like the axles.Had some problem with the connectors and sent wrong information to the computer. Problem resolved. FusionDiffusion
Cremallera y piñón = rack-and-pinion AKA the power steering rack. The power steering is electric, so when it fails it tends to draw down the voltage and trigger the "Service AdvanceTrack" warning. As in most cases I've heard about, replcing the rack is the only fix.
hermans
I had this happen with my 2010 3.0 when it was 2 months old. It happened several times and each time the dealer could not replicate. Finally it happened about a mile from the dealer and they were able to see I had no power steering. The problem never coded and a Ford Rep came to look at the car and authorized a new steering rack and computer as they had no idea what happened. This was in July of 2009 and there have been no issues since. Edited March 23, 2013 by hermans
Hreese
My 2011 Fusion has intermittent power steering. The dealer said everything was fine but it still goes out and is hard to turn. What would make it work some times and then go out?
