Are TSB's covered under warranty (bumper to bumper)?

Just have a quick question: are tsb repairs covered under warranty, assuming I still have active bumper-to-bumper coverage?

It depends on the repair. A TSB is just a set of instructions to help a dealer fix a problem. The nature of the problem is what determines if it's covered under warranty or not. Also a dealer doesn't have to do a TSB just because it exists. There must actually be a problem with the car first.

Just a quick clarification.... Yes - TSBs are usually covered under your warranty - depending on the issue encountered, whether or not that particular TSB applies to your vehicle (based on VIN, build date, etc), and the causal part for the repair. However - two things to consider - the TSBs are there just to aid in diagnosing and repairing concerns. If there exists a condition that fits a TSB, Ford requires that the TSB be completed prior to any other repairs being done. Also - labor times for TSBs are warranty time - so if your vehicle is off warranty - expect to pay more labour time to have the TSB completed. The other point to consider - is that there are some TSBs where there is NO labor time specified (because there likely isn't a causal part involved, and is usually just an aid in diagnosing a concern). These are not considered to be a warranteable (is that a word?) concern - usually.

It doesn't matter whether the work being done is part of a TSB or not - either the vehicle is under warranty or it isn't. If it's under warranty then all work is covered including those specified by TSBs. If the car isn't under warranty then no work is warrantable including TSBs.

Every Ford TSB has this statement:

 

WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. Warranty/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool

The best way to determine if an issue is covered by a TSB or is warrantable, is to have your service advisor run an OASIS report on your VIN and code it to the concern you experience.

 

If you are not having a concern, but heard about a TSB, you can ask them to review the particulars of the TSB with you. The presence of a TSB does not create an obligation to repair something.

 

Many TSBs cover parts supercedence, diagnostic routine changes, parts service details, etc. Some may extend the warranty coverage on a repair. You won't know the particulars until someone reviews the TSB details.
