Meelaan
Once again, anything positive is turned to a "glass is half empty" story. Note the very positive comments are stuck at the end of the article like some sort of sidebar or footnote. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19636744/
Drake
It's no big secret that the media would love for Ford or GM to shut their doors for good. It would give them something to talk about for 24 hours a day for 6 months and put a flashy title on. People like this MSNBC writer have no business covering the automotive industry. He's just blah-blahing something another useless mediabot has already said before just so he can seem relevant.
Dyoct
Sure Ford would love to sell 400K+ units per year but those in charge are more realistic. They and many others realize that Ford has been out of the highly competitive midsize segment for years, Ford's not just going to get back in it overnight versus established players/winners. It's like Tundra, it's not going to become King of Trucks overnight or in a couple of years. All that aside, Fusion is meeting its objectives of sales, conquest and profits. And it's doing it on its own merit mainly since Ford has held the line well on incentives when they could throw more money at it. Above all, it's providing gross profit to Ford Motor Company. If other cars say the Five H...err Taurus and Focus could do that too, then Ford would as they say in the South, "have themselves somethin'."

urnews
Doom and gloom report. Obviously biased. But the sales figures are, in fact, not very impressive.
akirby
Doom and gloom report. Obviously biased. But the sales figures are, in fact, not very impressive. They may not be impressive, but they're solid. The factory is running nicely and Ford is making money which has to be the priority right now. The key is to hang onto Fusion buyers when they start trading in. That's where the Camcords have succeeded and why they sell so darn many of them. People turn in their old ones and buy new ones without even shopping anything else. That's where Ford needs to be and why they need to continue the updates every 3-5 years. If I trade in my 06 Fusion in 5 years and the new Fusion is basically the same as my old one I may be tempted to go elsewhere to get something new. After seeing what's planned for 09 I'd have to say they're on the right track and only time will tell.

Trac_511
After seeing what's planned for 09 I'd have to say they're on the right track and only time will tell. Do elaborate..! I haven't read anything about the 09s.
akirby
Do elaborate..! I haven't read anything about the 09s. It may have gotten pushed back a year - won't know for sure until January. But there is a new interior (look at the pictures of next year's Flex for clues) including ambient lighting plus the 3.5L V6 and a new 2.5L I4 plus a nicely revised front and rear. Do a search for the concept drawings.
