Matthew111911
Good afternoon everyone, I have a 2012 Ford Fusion SEL with a 3.0L V6. I recently had the front windshield replaced. I have rain sensing wipers and all the sudden they do not work.... When you turn the knob once they cycle but after that they do not come on again. The only time they work is on high or ultra high. I was doing some research and cannot find anything on the rain sensing wipers for a ford, or any problems. I did however find different vehicles with rain sensing wipers and how a fix to this problem would be to reset the system.. Does anyone know if there is a way to reset it or what to do to get them to work again???? Thank you!!
FusionDiffusion
Did they put the sensor back on the new windshield properly? It's behind the rearview mirror. Sounds like something you need to settle with the glass company.
Rbtebo
Hello, I have a 2011 hybrid with rain sensor. Same problem, just replaced windshield and intermittent and rain sensing options not working. I disconnected the rain sensor and now the intermittent works. Did you ever find out if there is a reset needed? Thanks
thefoeyouknow
Ok. Here's what's happening. Your windshield guy didn't install a new rain sensor. I've seen this dozens of times, and here's what happens: The windshield guy removes the rain sensor and puts it on the new glass, and misses that the sensor leaves it's gel lens on the old glass. With no gel lens, the camera inside the sensor has no clear view of the outside of the glass, without the lens it is unfocused and cannot work. The correct thing to do is to just leave the sensor on the old glass and install a new one on the new glass. The gel lens cannot be replaced and only comes on a new sensor. Tell the glass people to bring a new sensor with them next time.
geoffofks
(2012 Fusion SEL): Is there a way to deactivate the sensor so I can just use the intermittent wipers? The slow and faster controls are working fine. Edited February 1, 2015 by geoffofks
akirby
If there is it's certainly in the owner's manual. You can search the pdf version at www.motorcraftservice.com .
thefoeyouknow
Dude, just go to the dealer and buy a new rain sensor. Once you pull off the trim cover, it snaps on and plugs in. Literally 5 minutes work, then you don't have to worry about bypassing and deactivating.
TexaNick
Is it that simple to install a new rain sensor. I have the same issue, and the dealer wants to charge and absurd amount to "look" at the problem plus parts and labor.
thefoeyouknow
Yes. It's that simple. Take off the black trim box, lift the metal tab and disengage on one side, repeat on the other. Just use a flashlight to look through the windshield at the camera first to verify the gel lens is or isn't there. If it's there and you remove the rain sensor, you still have to replace it.
Red Tiger
The rain sensors on the fusion require a new installation of rain sensor gel. Most windshield replacement companies will do this as part of the replacement if they don't you can do it yourself. You can find some videos on YouTube one in particular that I found was on a BMW windshield replacement with a rain sensor. I purchased a product on eBay with a product code of GGS 901 GEL. It's a two-part gel that you inject once you clean the inside of the sensor housing you apply the gel let it dry based on the temperature outside and then you carefully reinsert it on the windshield housing.
